Michael Bartone passed away during his fight with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, on March 29th, 2002. Michael was a longtime resident of Downingtown Pennsylvania (A suburb south of Philadelphia) where he maintained his home and a home improvement business. His friends number many, as he touched numerous lived through his never ending love for his family, his inspiration loyalty and friendship, his motivational sports participation, and his committed excellence. Although his spirit remains with us, he is missed.

But his fight goes on. This Rugby Event, and other events supported by the Foundation, are dedicated to the memory of Michael and his battle against ALS. For more information about the Michael Bartone Memorial Foundation go to http://eteamz.active.com/michaelbartonememorial/.

The Scrum 4 Six turned out to be an excellent showing of Rugby League. The first scrimmage of the 2006 season saw the Glen Mills Bulls face up against a team made up of players from the MataRays, Sharks, Fight, Slayers, and Bulls. The Bulls fielded a team made up of 14 players, while the other team fielded a team made up of 13 players. This scrimmage was more of a show to the union teams that were playing at the Scrum 4 Six, a way for some of the younger players to get some experience, and for the veteran guys to go out and get a run before the season starts.

This scrimmage saw the first of many rookies that will be playing for the Bulls this season. 5 of the new rookies were Geoffrey Ashton, Corey Benson, Jim Brazill, Mike McVey, and Mike Mertz. Geoffrey Ashton had 2 tries. Also the Bulls will have three more rookie players in Germaine Bennett, Darren Laws, and Brian Putnam. These 8 new players should play an interesting role on a Bulls team that really dominated the AMNRL in its 8 years, winning 6 championships.

The Bulls open up their season on Wednesday May 17th at the Glen Mills School and the Philadelphia Fight. They then travel to Laurel Maryland to play the D.C. Slayers, before they travel to Jacksonville to play the Axeman in their home debut
