Coach Des Hasler has given some pointers to his thinking for the NRL premiership side with his naming of a squad to play South Sydney at Wynnum Manly in Brisbane on Saturday nigght.

Hasler has named his strongest squad possible after Chad Randall,Shane Dunley and Jason King were ruled out on medical advice.

Former Parramatta hooker Nathan Hollingsworth gets another chance at hooker in the absence of Randall and Dunley.

Winger John Hopoate has been given a chance to press for selection in the opening game against the Cowboys in the premiership by being named on the bench.

In will be his first game since breaking his leg against Parramatta last July.

Outstanding young forward Kane Cleal gets a chance to impress after being in great form in Premier League trials recently.

The Sea Eagles are delighted to be going to Wynnum Manly which is now officially Manly's sister club.

Former players Grant Wooden and Gary Winter will play for Wynnum in the curtain raiser against Ipswich.

The Manly side is:
ANDREW WALKER
CHRIS HICKS
KEVIN McGUINNESS
STEVE MENZIES
SCOTT DONALD
JYE MULLANE
MICHAEL MONAGHAN
LUKE WILLIAMSON
SAM HARRIS
SOLOMON HAUMONO
DANIEL HECKENBERG
NATHAN HOLLINGSWORTH
IAN DONNELLY
JOHN HOPOATE
PAUL STEPHENSON
JEFF ROBSON
ANTHONY WATMOUGH
KYLIE LEULAI
NICK PATERSON
KANE CLEAL

That looks a pretty poor side - the front row looks very weak. Can any of those outside backs other than Menzies tackle?

Lucky for you guys Souths will have 10 players out which will make it a closer game ;-)

Already I can see it now Rastus, if you lose your excuse will be "we had 10 players out" and if they win "we can win the premiership"

BTW Rastus these 10 players that you state are out are they 1st graders? ;-)

Manly have a few players missing aswell!!

Lets put it this way, it isn't what you would call a strong team in the NRL climate. Neither are souths so it should make for a good tussle.

I think the teams are just about on par at this stage. Which one actually kicks on is anyone's guess.

I think it's a fairly strong team. There's a lot youngesters it there which all goes good for the future, if they can live up to their expectations then Manly would have a fairly youthful side with the excpetion of Menzies & Walker who have another 2 good years left in them. I predict Manly to finish between 8th and 10th spot this year and better in 2005 & 2006!
