Wow just wow...

For those who haven't seen it yet, this guy won the German derby last night by 11 lengths... youtube that shi*t!!!

As if the distance of the win wasn't scary enough, its the way he did it which is more amazing. Firstly he was caught wide from the jump and had to use a fair bit of petrol to get to the front, he then lead up the field at a pretty solid gallop throughout, then coming round the home bend he ducked out almost to the far post of the straight.

He must have lost at least 6 lengths as a result and the Jockey panics and shakes him up to get him on course and when he turns to look at where he is in comparison to the field (as he is about 20 odd metres away) he is about 6 lengths in front them. For the last furlong he pretty much stands up in the reigns where he continues to power away from the field, jockey turns a few times as if in disbelief of what has just happened.

By Sea the Stars out of a Monsun mare (sire of Fiorente) has had 4 starts to date winning a Grp 3 a pair of Grp 2's and now the Grp1 Derby

Aiming him at the Arc which his sire won so famously a few years back, massive call but this bloke may be even better. Clash with the Irish wondercolt 'Australia' is on the cards, should be a cracker!

 yehh!! thats one thing I think we underestimate in this country is the quality of the majority of our race callers. Watching international racing the calls are woeful and that includes places like the U.S, Asia and Ireland.

The call itself adds so much to the spectacle of a race, it annoys me when the call doesn't do the race justice.

Bloody hell that was an impressive win

The German Derby hasn't produced a world class winner since Shirocco in 2004 though

Massive win..

Apparently the trainer told the jockey that the horse had a habit of hanging, so he told him to let the horse go wherever it wanted..

The trainer said that they planned on leading, as the horse has such a huge stride..

He still sounded pretty confident about the Arc, even though it got rolled..

Sea the Moon Retired

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday, 17 September 2014

Lightly raced Sea the Stars colt Sea the Moon shot to fame when winning the Group I German Derby by 11 lengths earning him favouritism for the Arc, but his all too brief career is now over with news he has been retired.

Sea the StarsRacing Post have reported the colt is at Newmarket Equine Hospital and will not race again.

"He is injured and we have taken the decision to retire him and will start looking for a suitable home for him as a stallion,” said Niko Lafrentz, husband of the owner Heike Bischoff.

"He is in Newmarket's Equine Hospital and my wife is over there with him. We won't have a complete diagnosis for a while, but it is clear that he will not be able to run again."

Sea the Moon won his only start at two and has been brilliant this year winning his first three runs back before going down in the Group I Grosser Preis Von Baden to Ivanhowe.

From the first crop of foals by champion racehorse Sea the Stars, Sea the Moon was offered at the 2012 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, but bought back by his breeders at 230,000 guineas.

He has a big pedigree being from unraced Monsun mare Sanwa, an unraced sister to German Derby winners Schiaparelli and Samum as well as German Oaks winner Salve Regina.
