Maverik Geyer needs a huge off season in order to continue his progression to the NRL. Was great at the back end of 2022 in the big games, but his season overall was very injury interrupted. He has serious competition for the fringe spots so needs to deliver early in 2023.

Jury is out on how the Luke/Kenny tandem will go but Ryley Smith having a monster year in Cup would be huge for us. All 3 will be negotiating a new contract next off season so would be nice to be able to select the pick of the litter, or the best 2 to take forward.

You definitely get a sense from Cole that the kid is going to hit the ground running in grade and force his way into the side somehow. He’s just eaten up every challenge, new position, new grade that’s been thrown at him.

And the new position is?

Yeah if he's as good as he looks, he'll force his way into our backline and put himself in the shop front for a weak club to take a punt on him as a half just like Burton. We're only ever going to have these kids for the contract they debut on and maybe 1 more contract at best while Luai/Yeo/Edwards/Cleary are locked into those key big money positions.

Only way I see a guy like Cole sticking around is if we moved Luai on and went with Cole at 5/8 and left ourselves a bit more cash for a potential bigger money option at hooker (lets say Ryley Smith kicks on).

Maybe Cole leaves first chance he gets maybe not. Keep in mind Burto wasnt playing regular FG when he signed to the dogs and he still knocked back their first offer. If Cole gets a bench role then a starting gig in the centres he might be happy to wait a few years before pressing for a halves spot. Either way its a good problem to have, much rather have to many good young kids pushing for spots than not enough.

Jesse McLean is Crichton's long term replacement. Having someone like Cole for a few years helps the club and his development
