I think Martin Love was 385, but Bracken and Williams are probably later than that. I can check.

OK Beerboy, here's a very interesting site for you:

http://www.users.bigpond.com/themiffs/Cricket - Australian Cricketers.htm

I hope the link works.

Love was 385, but the site I found lists him as the last. The past five were:

380 Matthew Nicholson
381 Adam Gilchrist
382 Scott Muller (Can't Bowl, Can't Throw!)
383 Brett Lee
384 Simon Katich

So, I guess if he is named, Clarke will be 388, unless we used another relatively unknown bowler in tour last year that I missed. Of course, Love, Lehmann and Hodge have all played already.

Another interesting thing that we tend to forget is that Hayden, Langer and Martyn all debuted LONG before Punter, but they have all played less Tests than him. These three all made it in there very young, got benched for a while and then came back better the second time around.

I read in the paper today that it was actually Damien Martyn who bumped Dean Jones out of the Test side in 1992. Given that Jones was player number 324, issued in 1984, that means Martyn has been around a bloody long time.

I guess the most interesting thing looking at the list of players is that you can spot the generational changes that occur once every 10-15 years. Check out the mid-1980's.

Get ready for another...

No, the guy is a convicted Drug Cheat. And, he treats women like shyte. Then again, I guess that qualifies him as a legend in your book.

Dope.

Mate, he's married with kids. Great role model behaviour that is.

Even by your loose standards, that type of behaviour is frowned upon by most decent Aussie blokes.

No sermon though, because I accept that you, as a young single individual, can do as you please.

As long as she consents! ;-)

And lighten up on the name calling, you might hurt my feelings! :(

I wouldnt do it myself, but it's a free country, he hasnt broken any laws. The kind of stories I've heard about a few of the Wallabies would suggest that perhaps Warney isnt the only Australian sports star to get around a bit (SHOCK, HORROR!!).

Fair enough, just didnt appreciate being called a dope just because I acknowledged that Warne is one of the best cricketers of all time, he's certainly the best I've ever seen.

Hey, I agree that he is an unbelievably great bowler. It's sad that he's going to be remembered as much for his off-field antics and the drug ban as he is remembered for his bowling feats. But, that is his own doing.

History books will certainly not be as kind to him as they will be to others of his generation, like Waugh, McGrath, Taylor, Healy etc.

Hmm I disagree. I think Warne is better than the lot of them and will be remembered as such.

The sex scandals are largely forgotten these days, but things such as the Gatting ball will always live on.

Yeah, Funky was cool. He retired...He was already an old bastard when he made his debut. Right man at the right time, he did his thing, but I have no idea where he is now.

He won the AB medal a year or two back, didn't he? It was largely due to the fact that he featured in both Tests and ODIs in the same year - Only guys doing well in both forms can hope to win that. I don't like that system, Test cricket is the true benchmark, so far more weight should be placed on the winner of the Test player of the year than the overall winner and the ODI winner. I'm not sure if the voting treats Tests more favourably than ODIs though.

Tests are worth more than One-Day games in the AB Medal.

Not sure how much more though, I think 4X. Could be very wrong though.
