Shanahan to coach Redskins

what do you reckon he does in the draft?

i like campbell. the guys never had a settled team or scheme. you could either keep him and see how he goes in a new scheme with a guy who knows offense. or he trades campbell, to say the raiders or bills or even the rams. they get a solid QB, you get a high pick in the second round maybe. you could then feasibly draft a running back and a QB and start a fresh with a new offense.

There problem for the draft is that they have so many problem areas, especially on offense. Wouldn't surprise if they trade down to get extra picks.

At QB I think they may go looking for a veteran and take a rookie in the mid rounds of the draft. RB is a problem. There are a lot of questions about Portis coming back. Of course the big area of concern for them is the offensive line where they need a lot of hewlp.

Hmm i cant see them going with a QB
to be honest, i dont like the QB pool this year, there is one or two guys worth a look but i think they are better off taking their chances with Jason Campbell, or a vet for another year and going for a QB next year in the draft

the o-line and RB are vital needs, they need to be addressed first, and who knows. Maybe with a line that can hold its own and a RB that isnt getting stuffed like Portis was, Campbell might turn out to be an OK qb

As far as I can see the Redskins are NOT that far away.

On defense they are only really a co-ordinator and a LB away from a dominant defense.

Orakpo was fantastic, Hayensworth can play at a high level we all know that.
Deangelo Hall is a premiere Corner, Landry a fantastic safety. They are NOT far away on that side of the ball.

On offense, its not as though Jason Campbell isn't talented. For gods sake let this guy settle into one system. If they decide to proceed with him, they'll get a very good QB in 1-2 seasons if they stick with Shangahan's system.

At RB they have Portis as a reliable Vet and they can address 2nd and 3rd RB situation in the draft and FA.

At WR I can honestly see them making a play for Brandon Marshall now. Brandon Marshall and Santana Moss will make for a good 1/2 WR combination. From 3-5 on the depth chart they are young emerging guys so they will get better.

At TE they have two great pass catching Tight Ends in Cooley and with the emergence of Fred Davis they have threats there. I'd be going with a 2 TE set with Marshall and Moss on either side of Davis and Cooley...just run streaks with Marshall, Go routes with Moss and Slants across the middle with Davis and Cooley...it'd get results.

The only real problem the Skins have is just freakin ordinary O-Line. That is their main concern in the draft.

Mike needs to find another Ryan Clady in the draft, but they need a LT, RT and C...and if they get them...they need time to develop and not chop and change.

Apart from that, I don't see the Skins as a "rebuild" project. I still think with the personell they have, they can do very well.

Summed it up fairly well Mick.

Id argue that Hall isn't a premier corner, he gets nice stats but he isn't that great.

Even though he's a superbowl winning coach, the best scripted play caller in the league and the only coach who can consistently break Bill Belichick, it will take him a few years to sort out the mess that Snyder/Gibbs have created, and also we'll find out whether he's improved in drafting and free agent acquisitions.

And yeah Hall isn't very good while their other corner has stone hands.

I see your LB and raise you a FS.

Landry is a good Safety, but after the death of Sean Taylor he was expected to take over. The D system this year was terrible for Landry. He had to play alot of deep coverage or man-to-man on the TE or slot.
Zimmer could just play Horton and maybe have Landry playing at the level he was last year.

On offense, its not as though Jason Campbell isn't talented. For gods sake let this guy settle into one system. If they decide to proceed with him, they'll get a very good QB in 1-2 seasons if they stick with Shangahan's system.

Jason Campbell is a RFA. If they get an offer, he is done, otherwise he will be a skin for another season.

At WR I can honestly see them making a play for Brandon Marshall now. Brandon Marshall and Santana Moss will make for a good 1/2 WR combination. From 3-5 on the depth chart they are young emerging guys so they will get better.

Moss is not a 1 or 2 WR any more. He would be better in the slot. Randle El will be out IMO.

This is why I would love to see us become a 2 TE power run team. Portis, Betts and Ganther have proven they can pound the rock inside, then we can run PA to Cooley or Davis off of that. I do kind of expect to see Cooley's name thrown around in trades.

The only real problem the Skins have is just freakin ordinary O-Line. That is their main concern in the draft.

Our biggest problem by far. We better not trade any picks, we need OL all over the place.

I think you raise some great points, but majority of our problems are in management. Hopefully Shanahan can fix this. Then lets sort out that O-line.

Marshall is a restricted free agent which means any team who wants him has to cough up a first and third rounder and I doubt Mike will give up that much for Marshall when he needs to rebuild to O through the draft.

Marshall will go just across the river to Baltimore IMO.

Yeah but isn't the principle of RFA that if noone tenders, they are then a free agent able to speak to any club?

I think the club has discretion over that but you can bet there will be plenty of teams interested in Marshall and willing to pay the required price to get him.

Basically Denver can decide where he goes. They have complete control. This way he won't end up in the AFC West or a team like the Patriots. Send him to St Louis, Cleveland or some other crappy team that gives the Broncos maximum trade value and Marshall a sh*tty team to play on.

With the Deadskins not making the playoffs and Snyder's deep pockets, Shanahan could easily buy up all the best free agents this off-season. It will be interesting to see what they will do in the coming months.

The uncapped year will mean Snyder can actually write off his many poor acquisitions without penalty rather than adding to his team. The reason why I don't the the Redskins can turn it around as quickly, is due to the division, the lack of many key offensive positions like QB, RB, LT, WR and if they choose to go QB in the draft, their isn't a Matt Ryan available.

Hope so, we're a star WR away from being one of the top teams.
