He makes a good point there. That is my biggest problem with Des and the Manly coaching staff. When was the last time we dropped an out of form player?
ONE of the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles prized pick-ups has slipped through their fingers, with premiership-winning centre Shane Neumann signing with the Canterbury Bulldogs.
Neumann, who scored a hat-trick in the Sea Eagles grand final victory this year over the Northern Pride, signed with the NRL minor premiers just four weeks after inking a deal with the Sunshine Coast.
For the duration of season 2009, the 22-year-old was signed to the Manly Sea Eagles but played 19 of the Sunshine Coasts 24 games as a part of the two clubs feeder arrangement.
After he was released by Manly last month, the Sunshine Coast moved quickly to snap him up, but when the Bulldogs came knocking it was an offer the 99kg centre could not resist.
I was with Manly and had a year to go but was released, he said.
I signed with the Sunshine Coast because I didnt want to play for another Queensland Cup team. But all the while I wanted to stay in Sydney to be near my family. The Bulldogs offered me an opportunity and it was too good to knock back.
Neumann is likely to start the 2010 season with the Bulldogs feeder club and NSW Cup Premiers, the Bankstown City Bulls.
While he will have players such as Test centre Josh Morris and rising star Jamal Idris in front of him for a permanent NRL spot, he said the Bulldogs had a culture of blooding young talent.
Thats the thing with Manly, even when their first graders arent playing that well they dont drop them, he said.
But the Bulldogs, theyre not afraid to give the young guys a run.
The same with the Broncos, theyre not afraid to drop guys.
