The Tigers better sign him up. There won't be many clubs that don't know about him now. Just awesome today. The rabbits were just looking at this streak flash past em.

That's the sort of silly talk that sees Hoffmann now play for the Storm. Some kids cannot be held back. Hoffman has proved himself to be worth every cent of his $85K. McDonnell is an even better prospect. Having his dad running our show certainly makes the chances of keeping him so much better, but the Tigers will still need to show him the money. Or someone else will come up with an offer too good to refuse.

Shannon will be a First Grader in 2006. As such he has every right to demand First Grade money. He will be the first Magpie junior to play for Australia whilst still at Wests since the 50's unless Liam or Gibbo beat him to it. But only if the club doesn't sit on it's hands and just expect him to cop reserve grade money when other clubs will be offering 6 figures.

Probably. He's strong under the high ball, good in defence, elusive in traffic, and in open space - start cheering. His third try yesterday he was in the centres. He got the ball about 15 out and there was wasn't much happening but I could see the Souths defence was just a little bit too spread. As soon as the ball touched his hands I said "Shanny's in". You could just see they didn't have a hope of stopping him. In his last try they spread it wide at the 50m. The ball hit the deck and Mercer picked it up neatly and gave it off to McDonnell who was outside his man. I didn't even both saying anything, just started writing "try wests 1 30min" in my notebook for the website report. Souths had Roy Bell at the back who's no slouch but he didn't even get close. Anyone who says they wouldn't want that in their team is lying. When Sheens talked about having the best young fullback prospect in the game he wasn't talking about Greally.

You're right about it being tough to move Hodgo. He obviously still has many good years in front of him but come 2007 or 8 there just won't be any choice. I've been a fan of Brett's a long time and remember he pushed Leedsy into retirement at around the same age as young Shannon will be next year.

Of course I'm not saying Hodgo will retire, but when something this good comes along you can't let it get away. That's the negative side of developing your own stars of the future - they turn up when they're ready not necessarily when you're ready for them. Much easier just to go out and buy what you want each year in a way - but I'd always prefer to grow our own. Hodgo doesn't deserve to be moved, but this guy will demand it happens. Not this year, and maybe not next, but it will happen.

Thanks for such an indepth post Yappy. If he's as half as good as you say he is, and I believe he probably is ot looks very good. Can't say I love the influx of Magpie juiors into the top side, Balmain need to lift our game!

Hopefully I'll get a chance to see him go around in the next little while.

Mate, I've always loved playing the Bluebags because win or lose you know you're going home with bruises, but this Friday - pray Reynolds gets hit by a bus. If he turns up in anything like the form he was in last week you're gooooorrnneee!

Oh and don't let McDonnell get the ball in open space. (or Rieck, Miles, Collis, Mercer or Crockett for that matter)

See ya Friday.

Yappy,

It beats watching the 9 friday night footy, a cold night at Campbelltown Maggies and Jets, among true diehards. This week though you are not up against midget centres like Souths but men and this should be a beauty. The maggies are chock full of talent and speed and yes we better prepare well but me thinks that despite the hoodoo we have out there at Orana we may sneak home.

That kind of money didn't help Albert Hopoate?

Ppl are getting over excited about Hoffman, there wouldn't be a spot for him at the Tigers right now. The guy wasn't flash hot back then and Melbourne offered him the cash.

As yappy said, Hoffman was worth the large amount of money thrown at him. Hoppa just had size over others, he was good, but as the others have caught up, he isn't as good as he was. Hoffman would walk onto our Bench (Sheens won't drop O'Neill and Laffranchi), starting for Melbourne is a task especially for someone of his age. He would walk onto our Bench backwards with his eyes closed.

Yeah and you were watching all his games in Ball and First Div like me were you?

He was a stand out. He destroyed (along with Fults) the Sharks in the Ball Semi. Just smashed through wide of the ruck like a good 2nd rower should. Went straight into the First Div (bypassing Flegg) starting side and stayed there dispite having signed to leave because we needed him and he played great for us in the centres. Yeah he wasn't that flash hot and you've got NFI.
