Shark bits: Todays Leader

* Cronulla Sharks hope to re-sign veteran fullback David Peachey before his return to the field against the StGeorge Bank Illawarra Dragin Scum this Sunday. Despite reports he hasn't been made an offer, the injured Peachey has a one year contract worth $100,000 for next season as well as bonuses awaiting his signature. Peachey had been angling for a two year deal.

* The form of expensive recruit Nigel Vagana is causing concern in the Sharks ranks since his he had shoulder surgery at the start of the season.

* While Peachey and Galloway are expected back, captain Brett Kimmorley will miss at least the Dragins local derby before making his return.

* The good form of makeshift goal-kicker Mat Hilder means his captain will be happily relieved of kicking duties when he returns.

* Stand-in captain Danny Nutley believes 28-30 points are needed to make the top 8 this season. The Sharks have 20 with the bye and six matches remaining.

Interesting.........

Peachey offered $100,000 for the season.
Certainly not the money or contract length he wants.
It shows the Sharks couldn't really care less if he takes the offer or not.
But at least now they won't be accused of not offering him a deal.
If he takes it,it hasn't cost them a bomb.
I mean they signed Luke Harlen a Flegg/Premier League player on that money.
Good politics!

Well I dont know about that

$100,000 by anyone's standards is a decent wage for a year - "as well as bonuses"

The way the Sharks have been carrying on about not wanting to insult him, you'd think the offer was gonna be $35,000. I'm not sure what the bonuses are, but $100,000 for another year is a fair compromise I reckon.

Thats a fair deal. I would say that will equate to about $10,000 per game next season.

So it seems the ball is in Peach's court. The club end up smelling rosy because they offered him a deal, when in reality they would be getting him for free due to the 10 yr cap discount.

It would be interesting to see what these 'bonuses' are

I think they would actually be getting him for $50Gs
As I understand it the discount is 50% with a $100,000 limit to be discounted

Nice hilder kicking post too jimbo

I think that is great news about Peach. I hope he accepts it. That would be a bargain signing. Good to hear that he will be back for the Dregs as well, we'll need him.
