THE Sharks received some long overdue good news today when prop Chris Beattie was cleared of a neck injury and voiced his desire to play in the National Rugby League club's next game against Canberra.
Beattie suffered a severe concussion in the opening minutes of the Sharks' 36-10 loss to North Queensland on Saturday night at Toyota Park, a defeat that left the club anchored at the foot of the NRL ladder.
The tough Queensland forward spent Saturday night in hospital and had scans yesterday on his neck after complaining of soreness and headaches.
Those tests cleared Beattie of any serious injury and the 28-year-old is keen to play in what shapes as a crucial clash for the Sharks as they attempt to win back some credibility.
"I suppose after every game you have something sore but when you have a crook neck it's a bit of a drama," Beattie said.
"I feel a bit brighter today. A lot of the soreness has gone away."
Asked whether he would play against the Raiders, Beattie said: "It depends on how quick it (the soreness) goes away.
"(The doctor) was very doubtful about it this morning. He'll check it every day."
The Sharks will also have former Test prop Jason Stevens back for the visit of Canberra while the likes of Paul Gallen (elbow) and Nathan Merritt (ankle) could also come into calculations.
The bad news is their current plight, which has senior officials denying the club is in crisis.
"Everyone is trying to make out that there's some massive crisis here," Beattie said.
"I don't think there is at all. There's a few guys out that the team relies on like Paul Gallen and Andrew Lomu and Jason Stevens. I was knocked out in the first minute of Saturday's game.
"That's the heaviest forwards taken out of our forward pack. I don't think there's any sort of massive crisis on."
