This is the issue.

Warner, Smith and the bowlers into that NSW team is pretty handy. It also means guys behind that who want regular games need to move states.

Why would they need to move?

How many Shield games do those guys play per season, 2-3 tops? if that

Gilkes, Holt, Green, Kerr are trying to negotiate a red ball on a tricky deck with white ball techniques. How did these guys get into senior cricket with such an obvious flaw. I recall when Jack Edwards first came into Shield, dead set his back foot was 30cms behind his front foot. Obviously that was the way he batted in white ball cricket.

Having 8 guys in the Australian squad
Blues have always had a fair proportion of Aussie players. In the past the second stringers were better quality than today and held their own in first class cricket. Not anymore. Most of our second stringers come from a white ball background where a sound technique is secondary over fast and reckless run scoring. What has happened to good red ball coaches?

7 on Australia contracts

Abbott is off with Australia, He plays reqular Shield.

Patterson
Henriques

Are fringe Aust players. Depends on A games, extended squads may miss games.

Sangha x 2, Davies and co are young guys are there to plan for the future

Throw in guys Like Sams, Kerr and a few white ball guys.

Not too many spots free for someone in their late 20's that maybe killing it in Grade cricket.

That is due to state cricket run BBL franchises there is more crossover these days.

Quite a few very low scores this season from all states

Hunar Verma is on a development contract. Sandhu and Nair have recently played for NSW too
Precisely.. Uppal and Niv are two others that played Seconds before defecting to Tassie. The fact is these guys are no more able than their caucasion team mates as they have all come thru the same pathway. A white ball dominated one. All cricket between grass roots (community) and Premier (club) cricket is white ball. And 2 day red ball seems to be dwingling in proportion to one day white ball.

the primary reason for state cricket is to produce players for the national side.
Yes but AG we want them playing for our state as a lot of time, money and effort has been invested in them. Kinda defeats the purpose if they end up playing their careers with another state, and sucks big time if they then progress to a Baggy Green.

Blues are now cellar dwellers after five matches. Our worst start to a shield season since '08/09. The noose is now round the neck of Jaques, our batting coach and our selectors.

They sack the coach but not the people responsible for the pathways, you can only pick what’s there and the cupboard looks as bare as Bea Arthur’s dome. All this talk about we have almost half the test side is crap most of those players came through the system well over a decade ago. Besides the two Sanga’s which players have come through our pathways that look even close to making the next level???

If all they do is concentrate on white ball cricket coming though the systems you are going to continually churn out front foot plodders who can only play on roads. Your best players are normally your best players no matter what the format.

Jason Sangha hasnt been setting the world on fire. Pretty dissapointing tbh. Averaging 28.03 in 30 FC games (53 innings). His T20 stats look better average 34.61 from 25 games for the might Tunder. Hopefully he can step up next 12-24 months

Copy the Western Australia blueprint, whatevewr that is. They seem dominant in all formats.

Sangha played well last year in the BBL.

I thought T20 would be his weaker format.

He has underperformed at Shield no doubt.

I still think he may end up like a Mike Hussey finally get there as a late bloomer & click because out of all the young batsman in NSW he has the most talent & potential i can see. But yeah could be a slow burn to get there.
