Regardless of how Greg Mail is going, he shouldnt be in the side.

Players like him shouldnt be clogging up first class teams and keeping young players out - that problem afflicted county cricket for a long time and is doing the same thing here.
Spot on, but NSW this season have been the only side to punt heavily on youth.

Hodge and Hastings bowled so many overs because both Harwood and Nannes picked up injuries.

Luckily we played 4 quicks but it will still be extremely hard now to get an outright.

I cant believe Steve Smith doesn't get a run with so many players out, unless he is injured

Agreed re Smith

This is a very weak NSW side and the Victorian side is not much better, especially with an injured Harwood. Pity this match didnt start today so NSW could have Warner, Henriques and Bracken available and Vics could have Dussey, White available.

VIC 9/379 @ stumps
Hodge 98
Wade 62
Rogers 61

Lead by 152

The 9th wicket fell on the last ball of the day and since QLD lost outright to SA I doubt Harwood will be risked so NSW will probably bat straight away tomorrow.

Casson got the first 3 wickets but bowled rubbish and ended with 3/100+. His first wicket was a big full toss that Jewell hit to the only fielder in the deep and then his 2nd was a half tracker to Rogers which he dragged onto his stumps trying to hit to the fence. His 3rd wicket was a good ball (finally) a wrongun to Mash which he didn't pick and was LBW playing a cut shot which must have flicked pad first.

Mail definitely wasn't captain. Thornley was in charge 100% and some of his bowling plans were shocking. NSW couldn't have done any worse if Mail was in charge.

Hodge could have made a monster score, was doing it with ease and really harsh on Casson. Just before tea he got lazy and bowled through the gate by Bird.

It was looking like only being a lead of 50-60odd when 6/260odd but Wade and Wright put on 80+ for the 7th wicket when Thornley kept bowling himself and Casson and every single over there was at least 1 boundary hit.

Bird bowled well but bowled about a dozen no balls. Cockley got better as the day went on. Lambert bowled a good first spell then absolute pies with a terrible field.

And Quiney

No idea why he was made to rush to Sydney just to sit and watch, surely North would have been better as he would be there with the test side?

But it doesnt matter now, although his bowling would be handy tomorrow

Thornely isn't a captains arsehole, but to be fair to him pretty weak Blues bowling line up.

Nannes batted this evening without a runner, Nick Jewell on radio said they will assess him tomorrow morning as to whether he will bowl... but given SA beating QLD they will probably err on the side of caution.

The bowlers for the Vics in the 2nd innings will be McKay, Wright, Hastings, Hodge and Jewell.

Lucky they picked Hastings then

But they never should have played Harwood, even Nannes probably should have been rested, the one day final is next Sunday

Hastings was pretty useless with the bat today, only made about 10 and 4 of those was an edge through slips. Struggled against the short ball and eventually got out fending a short ball to bat pad. Crosthwaite wasn't much better with the bat, one of the worst 29s you will see... Wade today showed why he is miles in front of him as the Shield keeper/batsman and maybe only behind Paine now that Ronchi has been dropped by WA in line for national selection.

But Hastings earnt his spot coming off 2 centuries in a week (1 for Foots, 1 for 2nds) and is more of a bowling allrounder

Feel sorry for Crosthwaite, he was in fine form earlier in the season, made 50 in the shield final and they overlooked him now they throw him when he has been a bit out of form

But if Wade is in line for national duties then Australia is in trouble

Wade isn't close to playing for Australia. But if you were to rank the wicket keepers in the Sheffield Shield with the potential to play test cricket Wade would be behind Paine now that it seems Ronchi has fallen by the way-side in WA.

Harwood has come out to bat this morning to try and extend the lead and take as much time out of the game as possible.

VIC 9/401

A dropped catch already this morning
