Shines and Sizzlers need to be bought into line

I here yesterday Coach Sheens wishing he will get another crack at the City job in 2008 to coach against his pal Laurence Daley.

I Think whilst Noyce would obviously be busy assembling potential new Home bases for 2009, he needs to have a meeting with the 2 wise men. Since 2005 Shines and Sizzler have obviously decided they are of increased importance and ability by putting their hand up for the City Job and NSW Assistant coaching job respectively. Both were happy to combine jobs, and let the likes of Peter Gentle, step in to the fold. After 2005, no one could blame them.

However, Needless to say Wests Tigers have been awful in the past 2 seasons, winning just 21 of 48 matches after winning the Premiership in 2005. Over the past 2 seasons the Minister of defence is presiding over a shambolic defensive unit, and the 40% since 1996 guru is picking out of date teams each week. Furthermore Sizzler was heavily involved in NSW being drubbed in the past 2 seasons, and Shines has done nothing special in the most meaningless game of the year played at Dapto Sports Ground or Lismore Recreation Ground.

Mr Noyce needs to bring the Two Wise men into line. They should both count themselves luckily, Sizzler especially that their contracts were not terminated after the 2007 debacle. I think they need to be told that all their enegies need to be given towards dramatically improving the teams performance, sleection, recruitment and overall enthusiasum in 2008.

This is precisely spot on. We pay these clowns' wages week after week and they love touting themselves for the rep jobs when the time comes up, further neglecting their duties. Between them, shinesy and sizzler are on near enough $700,000 per annum. Massive biccies considering one has steered penriff to a spoon and the other has won less than 40% of games since 1996. The likes of Alan Jones, Steve Ghosn, Laurie Freier, Craig Coleman and Phil Economides must be kicking themselves they didn't send a CV to Noycey. Noyce is probably trying to find what Tony Kemp's current employment status is

But on their in footy land Super-Shines and to a lesser extent his mate sizzler are put on a pedestal. People marvel at super-shines results. He is even getting the raps for the cows climb up the ladder. (the media say he laid the foundations). Even another dismal year by super-shines will not damper his supporters. They will all reminds us of those three months in 2005. From my point of view I hope he coaches every rep side from the belrose under eights through Bowral golden oldies--keep him away from our mob

That is the thing mate. He has lots of mates, sycophants, cronies and do gooders in the media who will champion his cause. Brian Smith has made something like 7 of the last 10 finals series. Very consistent and yes I am aware he has failed to win a GF in all his years. Yet smith is rounded on by certain sections of the media (Tele and Raaaaaaaaaaay) because they have decided they don't like him. Shines' 9th this year got him a coach of the year nomination ... for 9th. The first time in history a coach who has finished 9th has been nominated. Just goes to show how big a role the media play in peoples' perceptions

Players were not allowed to play for their respective countries during the off season but a poor performing coach wants to to leave mid season for unnecessary rep duties... That makes sense...

You're right.

It does make sense.

The coach isn't risking serious injury by doing so. Even if the coach were to break his leg stepping off the bus onto the training ground, it wouldn't prevent him from carrying out his club duties or the remainder of the year. Playing for Uzbekistan against Romania in a "World Cup" qualifier on a cow paddock in Tashkent however......

The sad thing in all this is we had an equally inept and unsuccessful coach coaching BRET ... and they punted him. I just saw ella re arthur on Cook Rd in marrickville looking very dejected as he was fitting tyres after his sacking and Fiji's last minute loss to Tonga. If only we had retained him because his winning record with soufs is about the same as Shines' since 1996

Agh yes i do agree with you to some extent Gus but that was not the reason why he was not allowed to play. The reason given was the poor team performance. So if the near Dally M winner ain't allowed to represent in an off season then why should Mr 40% be allowed to during a season. It certainly isn't deserved.

Agree with you there actually. I've always been of the opinion that being a Club coach is a full time gig. Releasing your coach for an irrelevent City/Country match for a week, or worse , a six week Origin campaign, is an unwanted distraction & therefore bad for business.
