Should the Suns trade Nash?

With the window seemingly closed on the Nash era as the Suns head towards another loss today, which would seem them slide to 15-21 (10th out West), should they consider trading Nash? Despite their record, his value should be reasonably high as you could argue he's playing as well as ever, with a relatively friendly contract to boot.

I know they just made a mammoth trade last month to try and shake things up but if they're ever going to get decent value for him now might be the time. I don't see them gaining anything by standing pat, they're not good enough to make the playoffs, but they could theoretically land a good young player and cap relief (and probably a draft pick) before the lock-out if they move him before the deadline.

Trade him to the T-Wolves - and I think he'll be dominant again.

IMO that's what that team needs.

Solid shooting in Beasley and Johnson, Solid rebounding with K-Love and Darko. If they get Nash...he's hella better than Ridnour and Flynn. And a good stop gap until Rubio gets in and gets his feet wet.

Except they would want someone like Beasley/Love/Johnson involved in trade. Or maybe Flynn and not sure what the expiring contracts situation at T-Wolves are like or the picks situation.

I'd say the Suns would insist on Rubio in that scenario, and probably another youngster. And wouldn't the Wolves be even more horrendous defensively with Nash?

Hawks have expiring deals and future picks but no youngster of any great value - Teague is nice but a long way off being a regular contributor. Both the Knicks and Nets could make a move if they miss out on Melo as well.

Why would the Suns take Billups though? The point of trading him would be to cut salary and Billups earns more.

Easy answer is yes. They're a team on the rebuild, and hence it makes sense to trade away your veteran star who could fetch you some nice assets for the future.

On the flipside, Nash means so much to that fanbase and I can't imagine what hit the team would take financially if they were to trade him away. What reason would Suns fans have left for going to games?

Imo I don't think a team like the T-Wolves should be interested in Nash. They're a young team who, while having some nice young talent, suck balls. At best, they're still 2-3 years away from being a serious threat in the West. In all likelyhood, Nash will be done by then.

I guess it would give a boost to the fanbase and Nash could have a positive impact on the younger guys. A possible mentor to Rubio maybe? (so long as he's not involved in a trade for Nash). But personally, if I were the T-Wolves and looking to make some moves, I'd look at acquiring younger assets who's timeline was more in line with the rest of my teams.

And considering how bad the T-Wolves are record wise, it's probably not a good idea for them to be giving away future draft picks.

Before they made their moves, I thought Orlando would have been an ideal spot for him. Nash and Dwight would have been special to watch. Can't see it happening now though.

I agree that the wolves would be a bad fit and that Nash on the Hawks would be nice.

The suns should trade him for his sake. Let him have a shot at a ring... The only problem is the strong teams have their 1 spot sorted. PG is the most loaded position in the NBA...
