Should there be a top 8 ?

The top 8 finals format really does reward teams that have performed mediocre during the regular season with a chance of sneaking into the finals.I am not totally convinced that teams that struggle for consistency deserve the opportunity to still be active come September,most of the time it just prolonging the agony by another week and sugar coating an ordinary season.A format consisting of the top 6 may be a better and deserving finals option.

Top 8 is the go. Keeps people interested through bums on seats and TV ratings when your team is a chance of finals football. But the new system really rewards top four as it should. See AFL use this system and it works perfectly. No team from 5 - 8 has ever made a grand final in the 10 years it's operated.....but having them there in the finals keeps the fans interested and hopeful.


I would've stopped caring midway through the season if it was a top 5, as would many fans of Newcastle, Canberra and others on the fringe.

all about money and tv ratings. Top five would be the go,but the problem by mid season the comp would be over for a lot of teams and than you get a lot of dead games. By having a top eight you usually have a few teams in the mix till the last week. from what i have seen this year no team out of the top five have a chance in hell of winning the big one.

from a tigers point of view just once it would be nice to see them play well from game 1 right through to the end of the season with only the odd form slump

Top 5 is the ideal view in terms of competition.

Maybe if we hadn't of let so many players go to England etc it would be a more viable concept though

Finals football would just be a dream for you under the top 5 format.

Never said we were but recent history will show we are very close. Top 6 easily without injury or senile coaching.

At least the knights can start their mad Monday tomorrow.
