Should we fear big Mal ?

Sheens is a better coach than him, no doubt about that. I think the success of Meninga is in not overplaying his hand- staying out of the way.

The QLD team that brought Mal such success is winding down. It's a smart time for him to move away from that.

I can see games between NZ and Australia being very close consistently for some time regardless of who the coach is.

Sheens is terrible. There's a reason he can't get an NRL job post Tigpies... mind you, there's a reason why Mal doesn't have an NRL job too.

Personally I think we should respect any Australian coach no matter who they are,I'd imagine coaching an international side is like coaching an Origin side where you only need to crank your side up for a few games a year, quite a different prospect from the week after week of the NRL grind.

I don't think you'll get too much derivation from something like..

Tuivasa-Sheck
Nightingale
Whare
Kenny-Dowall
Vatuvei
Foran
Johnson
Matulino
Luke
Bromwich
Mannering
Proctor
Taumalolo

Leuluai
Moa
Taupau
Harris

Except some might go for a different player over Leuluai... Brown, Glenn, Taukeiaho perhaps?

As for the topic; no. He's not a magician, but a capable (rep) coach/man manager who had exceptional timing coming into the QLD job. He's not going to bring too much more than Sheens, except maybe an extra front rower (then again, maybe not..). He'll be playing a team more dangerous than any he's faced in the Origin arena, with more or less the same old (and getting older) team. I expect they'll get a little better, but not by any significant amount.
