Should we sign Matthew Head?

On the footy show last night Andrew Voss said that if Matthew Head approached the Dragons for a release they would not stand in his way. I noticed Head didn't get a go in the game tonight like last week.

Anyone think we should make a play for him? I'm not sure how good Head is these days but if he is half as good as he was in 2004 then he could be a valuable addition to the side. I don't think Robson is the answer and with Head we could push Mateo to lock and play Kris Keating at five eighth who I thought had a very good game tonight.

Your thoughts?

I've been saying it all week. Head is just we need at present, we can't write this season off so early we are only 2wins from 5 games. A player like Head for the rest of this season could turn us around into a top 8 side. Our defence is great and field position is good we just need direction in attack, Head could provide that.

could be a good stop gap solution but i'd rather see mortimer thrown in there. the roosters did the same with pearce and 12 months on reaped the benefits. if not mortimer then kk. we again looked better with him there. jeff robson has never done anything that has made me think he is any better than a park footballer and the dragons game reinforced my belief. i don't think he should be used at nrl level.

Well Ando only has to walk along the corridoor to the next change room and have a chat to Head and see if he is interested.

as long as we don't sign him for longer than this season.

he would be very hit and miss...has the ability, but whether he can stay on the park is another matter.

i'd be using this season to plan for the future, not make the same mistakes as before.

Yeah but you can't just write the season, we need good crowds and sponsors to keep the club afloat if you start stuffing around with things and the season ends up crap then crowd will drop and sponsors will lose interest and then we will have no club, just ask Denis.

He's better than what we've got.

If he's not injured he's a decent player if its true he wants out of St George we should be the first club to go after him.

No No No!!! We need to look towards the future, Head is not the future. We have players in the club that can play half and need to be given a chance. Why should we sign head when we have not even given Kris KEATING A CHANCE AT HALF. I reckon we need to given Keating a chance at half, he may not star in the position first, but considering he is young , if he improves from game to game - then that is a good sign If he doesn't improve game to game or show any promise then I would consider signing head. Lets now forget head can injury himself brushing his teeth

I actually thought Jeff Robson had a very good game last night. He passed the ball to the backs, attacked the line, tackled like a terrier. I think Feleti Mateo ruined our attack last night with all his handling errors. I`d like to see either Hayne back at five-eight outside Robson for a while, or (more likely) Kris Keating outside Robson. I think if we had Keating at five-eight last night instead of all the dropped ball from Feleti, we would have seen some attack.

in saying that lingard, Hayne and Grothe only saw the ball if they went in looking for it, Robson just didn't pass to that side of the field all night. So he can't pass that way then Mateo should of been on the other side and used the ball more.

Head is a fantastic player and was a spear head in 2005 when the Dragons were at their peak (like us!).

Had injury not hampered ghis time on the park, I have no doubt he would be the NSW halfback.

He would be a good signing, but only for a bargain price as he is injury prone. Otherwise we should just stick with KK.

Yeah - one wonders about Matty Head because of that injury...

Is there anything left in the tank?
He wasn't good enough to nail down the Tigers job last season, and now he's unable to crack the Dragons starting job (admittedly a tougher assignment).

Has his confidence been affected? What's the story there? Players that bump around clubs tend to do so for a reason.

So I'm with ya - sign him IF it's for a bargain price. Even injured he's still a better option than Robson. But it's not worth anything more than a 1 year deal just to see what he's got!

I would like to add that Justin Poore was not much better than Cayless last night. I know some of the forum members were very keen in signing him.
