Silly Season 2025/26

Papenhuysen confirms he thinks he is retired from rugby league, had a head knock in Round 26 that rattled him and he was always going to take this year off from sport regardless, but sure if he even wants to go down the rugby path now

Lot of talk around that Tino to Roosters is a done deal

It's a funny old draw this year, in terms of no games in our home city from the Titans fixture on April 18 to 13th June when the Sharks turn up, then not again for a month. So one game in basically 3 months in Auckland.

I'd love to be at the game in CHCH. That stadium looks nuts. Why does that town get cool stuff and the rest of us don't?
Hey! Slap a tarp on Eden Park, boom, fully covered stadium!

Ha yeah I know, they deserve it. I would happily live there, but the mrs is the kind who puts the electric blanket on when it gets below 20 deg
I would never live there (well I did it once, so never again), happy to visit and go to their new stadium though. I'm with your missus in that it's too cold (even if I don't like electric blankets).

Weather certainly crazy all round at the moment, no better example than this afternoon when I had my lad at the skate park in the sun (just down from the stadium), looking at a sky that was as black as you could get, hearing some huge thunder, but not getting a drop of rain on us while 15mins away in the car was getting flooded

you got 70 dormant volcanoes. maybe if one pops off you will get a new stadium.
Haha I don't live in Auckland mate, haven't for 15 years. But yeah that place has the worst stadiums in the world, including Sarajevo and the like.

Living in Melbourne for a short time...NZ is home and I'm glad to be back, but it's hard to give away the world class stadiums within 5km of our place.

The other thing that city does - and I presume the rest of Australia - way better than NZ is attend and support live events. The amount of games I missed over there on a 'I'll buy tickets closer to the time' basis because people just go. You have to be in early. They love an occasion more than us, I'd love to see us get to live sport/events more. Yes, public transport isn't what it is over there, cost of living as well but I think it's an apathy, too, in the big city about the live experience.

Rocco back in for more surgery, apparently his last shoulder surgery 'didn't take' (whatever that means). The guy has his own bed at Mercy Hospital, surely.

And TT has a leg injury, sustained on the farm apparently. Rocco definitely out round 1, TT unlikely (although arguably wouldn't have been in the XVII anyway)

Bunty making a good impression at the Tiges.

Luai mentioned the impact he was making in preseason a little while back too. Really hope he goes well. Be kinda sucky for us if he suddenly has a massive season, but cant begrudge a dude like that.
