It was always on the cards, I am more surprised that he wasn't selected in the 17.

I agree, the push has been on for years.

Make no bones about it folks. Simmo IS being groomed as Mini's long term replacement.

Hunt did his job... and is a nationalized Ozzie...

As a Sharks supporter, you should be happy for Simmons, but I guess you were a "sh*t dumper" on him and can't accept it :p

I am happy for him. Should boost his confidence.

SIMMONS CALLED IN TO PLAY FOR CITY ORIGIN
08.05.06 16:13 Age: 16 min

Following the withdrawal of Bulldog Hazem El Masri, Sharks fullback David Simmons has been called into the City Origin team for Friday nights match against Country Origin in Dubbo.
Simmons will take over on the wing, joining Sharks teammates Lance Thompson and Paul Gallen in the City squad.

Both City wingers El Masri and Eric Grothe were ruled out with injury at the team medical check held today. Panther Luke Rooney took the place of Grothe.
For both Simmons and Gallen, Friday’s match will be there first taste of top level representative football.
Gallen’s inclusion was seen by some as long overdue, with the strong running back rower touted by many as worthy of a spot in the rep teams last season. Gallen was typically solid for the Sharks in their 30-12 win over St George Illawarra on Sunday, while Simmons, still learning the ropes after taking over in the fullback position from David Peachey this season, had his best game to date in the number one jersey against the Dragons.
All three Sharks players have flown to Dubbo in preparation for the annual City v Country Origin clash and will travel directly from the western NSW country town to Canberra for the Sharks round 10 match against Canberra this coming weekend.
The Sharks play Canberra on Sunday in a match to be played at Canberra Stadium. Adam Dykes is in doubt with an ankle injury, with scans to be conducted later in the week to determine the extent of the injury.
