Before commenting I have looked everywhere on the web for this statement from Singo and can't find it any where, can someone help me here.

If singo has said it...what a pratt and shows why the NRL haven't given him a Central Coast team.

If he hasn't said it, it shows that many people (either in the Media or so called League supports) need to get over the fact that MElbourne is here to stay.

As Singo is a personal friend of Ribot I would find it hard to believe that singo thinks there is no support down here from the corporate sector.

He is a very switched on business man who would be fully aware of how much sponsorship dollars come in just from the Storms playing strip. (At last reports just under $3.5 million)

This is bullshit. We NEED the Storm to stop us being a national joke. They are a beacon of hope and a symbol that we haven't given up. I want a Gold Coast team desperately but not at the expense of the Storm. The NRL shouldn't architect environments when clubs and possible clubs try to undermine and canibalise each other! It's a disgrace. It's common knowledge Singo just wants a Sydney comp and cares little for a national comp. Makes me wonder how he got so successful thinking so narrow mindedly.

Besides we already have 2 News Ltd owned teams. We dont need another one with News Ltd equalty. Brisbane and South Queensland are crying out for alternatives from the Broncos and Super League aligned clubs. A Ribot helmed Gold Coast (The man behind Super League!) is not the answer and they just wont capture the hearts of thelost fans up here, me being one of them.

The Storm's place is Melbourne town! And they should be kept there at any cost or price or effort!!!

Without the Melbourne Storm the NRL would:

Probably lose their current naming sponsor (Telstra)
Would get less $$$ for the the naming rights to the NRL
Would get less $$$ for broadcast rights

Maybe back in the ARL/NSWRL days the Storm would be kicked/moved, but today the NRL is run a lot better than they were.

Based on business decisions if the NRL was in a position where they had to abandon the Storm there would of already been 5+ of the current Sydney clubs already dead.

I read that full article on the internet. But unfortunately I don't have a link for it.

What's the name of the paper? If it is owned by one of the major companies it's probably got it's own site somewhere :)

No corporate support? What the f**k is he on? Addeco give us $2 million dollars to have their names on our jumpers and we've also got the likes of Honda, CCC, Channel 9, Sportsbet etc as sponsors. Not to mention the money from News Ltd.

Little Spectator support? Well we still do get more people than Wests and Souths and possibly a couple of others and considering we're in Melbourne with 10 AFL clubs and games going on up against the Storm all the time what more does he want? A premiership? Oh wait we have that, and it wasn't back in 1922 like the Bears last one was.

Can't get a game on telly? Well unlike North Sydney who has 0 games on tv because it ain't a team anymore, we had 26 last year, 21 on Fox and 5 on 9. There would be a lot of teams far worse off than us in that respect.

John Ribot made some good points about the NRL in an article in today's Herald Sun. He commented that until the game is run by a commission with the best interests of the league and game at heart, then it is always going to be a step behind.
Currently, the NRL clubs are basically in power, and each of them is only going to look after their best interests... understandably.
Name one other league in the world where the clubs run the competition...

Including 3 games in a row. And that is a good achievement.

5 games on Channel Nein last year?

Hmm, I call only recall 4 Storm games, funnily enough I didn't watch a single one as I was at the game on each occasion.

Storm vs Bulldogs June 22nd, televised by Nein at about 1:30am.
Dragons vs Storm forget the date, televised by Nein probably about midnight.
Raiders vs Storm first week of finals, televised by Nein probably about midnight.
Bulldogs vs Storm second week of finals, televised by Nein live!!!

What was the other match that Nein actually televised?
