'TIME TO FORGET 2005': SKANDALIS
Ben Blaschke NRL.com
Wednesday, July 29, 2009
Wests Tigers prop John Skandalis has warned his team-mates not to become carried away with memories of their stunning 2005 premiership run or risk blowing their chances of another finals appearance later this year.
The Tigers head into Monday night’s clash with premiers Manly having won three games in a row for the first time this season to rocket back into finals calculations.
Their run has evoked memories of 2005 when the club sat in 11th on the NRL ladder at the halfway mark before winning 13 of their final 16 games to claim the title.
But Skandalis says the Tigers can’t afford to dream of past glories if they hope to continue their latest charge.

2005 is in the past fellas and coaching staff- this is 2009 now. Good advice from Skando- stop the day dreaming and play for now. WT have to stop the continual hark back to 2005 examples for the rest of the season.

I don't know that the players are thinking 2005 so much as the media machine is trying to put a spin on a season that could have gone very differently had certain positional changes been made from the start of the year.

Cant disagree- but Teflon & Simmons will wriggle like anything to escape any responsibility for the bad judgement is player selection for the first half of season. But aside from that WT media machine are spinning the 2005 comparisons like crazy.............

Worst thing that ever happened to our club was winning in '05.

It has been the excuse to continue to persist with the nuffys in the front office ever since.

If we didn't win in "05 - the media wouldn't have tolerated Marshall at 7 and dick head would be gone.

Perhaps you guys should read the whole post?

Do you think a side that wins a comp then cant make the finals for the next four consecutive years and didnt get any decent players or sponsors after the win is basking in the glory of a premiership?

Thats the trouble with waiting for so long for a premiership in the first place - it breeds the acceptance of mediocrity.
