The Rugby Football League have unveiled a new five-year television deal with Sky Sports that will net Super League clubs £1million a year for the first time.

Some of the stats in there are wrong. The clubs currently receive £1.2million a year central grant.

Good to see the internationals have been split, hopefully they'll be on terrestrial TV and on saturday afternoons.

Perhaps the RFL could extend the Challenge Cup by splitting up the round where Super League teams enter over a few weeks.

They could then schedule Super League byes for those teams in advance and get more games on BBC over a longer time period. Depending on how long they spread it, they could even sell some to Sky.

From what I can tell this doesn't even include internationals or the Challenge Cup. Does this mean that all monies on top of the 90 million will be gravy, further boosting the record? I suspect the Challenge Cup usually gets sold seperately though...

Sold? Given the amount of coverage the BBC give the sport i think they probably give it away.

The final has to be on free to air tv, and no one else seems interested.

There is also the money for the highlights on free to air? I hope we sell it to the bbc for enough money that they actually do something with it, an hour long with a set time, nationwide, would be nice.

It's great news but lets hope that clubs have learnt from their mistakes over the years, too much money has gone into the pockets of overseas players.
