Slight correction on Lyon and info on anti-Manly clause

In other news, St Helens late last night announced the signing of former Australian centre Jamie Lyon - even though Parramatta chief executive Denis Fitzgerald said less than two hours before that negotiations were not complete.

Fitzgerald admitted the Lancashire club was "the most keen" on Lyon but when asked if a St Helens media call was to announce his signing, replied: "I certainly hope not ... we are still waiting for some paperwork."

Nonetheless, by 9.30pm Sydney time Saints coach Ian Millward had called Lyon the club's "biggest signing since Mal Meninga".

Fitzgerald said there would be a clause in the release which would prevent Lyon being released back to Manly, with whom he is prohibited from speaking. "There would be some fairly stringent conditions placed on his release," Fitzgerald said.

well i guess my and many others thoughts on him joining Manly anytime soon are put to rest by knowing that!
Good

Yeah, but I have a feeling he may find a way around it.

At best/worst depending on who's side your on. Lyon will be in a Sea Eagles jersey by 2007.

Yeh its hard to see anything but that in 2007

But 2 years is a long time and anything could happen i guess
for instance Smith could be gone and if his the worry he mite beg parra to take him back

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure Parra would learn from that and officially lodge Jamie's new contract and it's clause here with the NRL doing whatever necessary to ensure he doesn't return to Sydney before 2007.

That seems to be what Leeds failed to do with Harris, and the fact that it was a different code probably didn't help co-operation? I think in this case St Helens would be more than happy to help with the process of ensuring Jamie follows his contract as well!

It's simple --> we can just sign a release clause similar to the one that allowed him to play for Wee Waa. We say that he can play for St Helens for the next 2 years - failing that he has to play for us.

Done deal - no Lyon in the NRL until 2007... hopefully by then he's softened up some from the English playing conditions and wants to play for the larger dollars over there!

And HOPEFULLY we win a premiership without the little whinger...
