In other news, St Helens late last night announced the signing of former Australian centre Jamie Lyon - even though Parramatta chief executive Denis Fitzgerald said less than two hours before that negotiations were not complete.
Fitzgerald admitted the Lancashire club was "the most keen" on Lyon but when asked if a St Helens media call was to announce his signing, replied: "I certainly hope not ... we are still waiting for some paperwork."
Nonetheless, by 9.30pm Sydney time Saints coach Ian Millward had called Lyon the club's "biggest signing since Mal Meninga".
Fitzgerald said there would be a clause in the release which would prevent Lyon being released back to Manly, with whom he is prohibited from speaking. "There would be some fairly stringent conditions placed on his release," Fitzgerald said.
