His catching under pressure improved enormously last year. In fact, he is as reliable as anyone now. His tackling has improved a lot too but sometimes he seems to be one step behind in cover.
I agree mate. Some of his try savers were impressive last year. That one he made on Kini at the backend of 2024 was really good. Definitely wouldn't have made it earlier in his career, let alone earlier that season

Just to play devils advocate. Dylan Edwards had the same thing happen to him multiple times in his early career. He was almost moved on because Penrith were in favour in Charlie Staines at fullback. Now I’m not saying Sloan could be Dylan Edwards quality but let’s give him a chance with proper coaching and mentorship from Gutho. He showed improvement last season if he can continue the trajectory he could become first grade quality

Funnily enough I remember reading somewhere a year or two ago that out of all the bumper crop of Penrith players who have dominated the last 4 years, Edwards was the player most people at the club thought wasn’t cut out to be an elite first grader coming up through the juniors. Goes to show what effort and hard work can achieve.

And I‘m backing Sloan to follow Edward’s And become Elite. He obviously has the attacking flair. He says all the right things and Gutho is mentoring him. I saw huge development last year. We get the rest of the team right, and that reduces the pressure on him, meaning he gets confidence from the efforts he does, but more critically he learns the way to direct the team from the back from one of the best.

… or he doesn’t and we move him on, but I’m backing the former.

If Sloan has done his work during the off-season, I am sure he has a good chance of winning the right-wing spot.

I'm still tipping Lawson to win selection on the left-wing. He is the big, strong and fast winger we have been looking for.

there is just something about Sloan that inspires me as a supporter.
All players mature at different ages/stages.

Despite the negativity, I still believe Sloan will come into his own as a club legend.
My preferred wingers are Sloan and Lawson.

He will do well on the wing, gonna be a great season for sloany!

DWZ isn’t slow, and definitely isn’t a little guy, salon burnt the whole team and pushed off DWZ.
yet it’s the defence and organisation that’s got to improve, and it was a mixed bag last year.. still, it improved a or form 23, and he has shown me enough to say he is capable, just needs to get consistently Good at it.

Flanno tried his best to have him at 1, he just doesn't have the defensive ability for the role. Wing would suit him well, especially broken field play, returning kicks.

i still think he will be there in a few years, maybe even before gutho retires. That said, I agree his defensive side still needs to develop to achieve that, and more so he needs to learn how to “gutho” the team structure.
