In another Smithy observation after hi bigger is better experiment which has been a stunning success for slow footy- he has again shown Gibson type inventiveness by telling Dyksey to change his game!

In BigLEAGUE this week

Cannot believe that our most classy, experienced and proven player is being asked to go against his natural instincts and learn the way he plays all over again.

Unbelievable--if he is not good enough-drop him permanently-if he is good enough for firsts-i think he is- why not tell the other players and the whole team to perform better and get them better to allow Dyksey to play his natural play?

Smithy has lost all perspective and DFyksey will go and kill them at another club!! I would if i were him

Smithy is trying to manufacture something again- you cannot ask an instinct player like Dyksey is to change too much at all--
thats why Amos Roberts did not come to us- Lang wanted him for his natural game and thats it!!

I f Dyksey is good enough for firsts let him be and fix the rest of our structure like faster, mobile forwards in the 2nd rower and not selecting props like Stapleton there constantly!

So why bother training at all Game First? Why not get rid of a coach all togtehr and tell the players to do whatever comes natural?

I'm sure Smithy would have just made a few suggestion to Dykesy about certain aspects of his game.

By the Way Craig Stapelton has only played one game in the second row.

Alex, our second row all year has been Hindi/Stpleton for 2 games at least -see big league round rd10 and rd11
Anyway you should know this if you follow closely enough!!

Before these rounds Cayless and Hindi were 2nd rowers for about 4-5 matches- slower backrow than most others- i suppose you think Fitzgibbon/Crocker or Ryan/Feeney or Ryan/Mason or Tallis/Carlaw are slower than our pack the whole year NOT ONLY 1 ROUND!!!!!!!

Actually mate if you follwed closely in Rnd 11 Staps was listed at second row but actually ended up starting on the bench and being used as a rotating prop. I would have thought you'd be used to not trusting the team named on Tuesday by now.

Hindy is among the fastest backrowers in the game and since when is mobility soley linked with speed? It sure hepls but its not like they have to fly down the touch line.

Alex, you dont agree our pack weakness is we are less mobile and definately slower than most packs in the comp especially the leaders-due to Smithys bigger is better!

Hindi is fast, but if you want to start getting specific-

Cannings- slow side to side and unfit
Cayless- not a second -rower- a bit less mobile there-against other packs
Tsoulos-slow side to side and unfit
Stapleton- not a second rower
Armitt- love him but is a prop- Smithy has even used him in the backrow

Please admit we have an ineffective pack mainly because our Philosophy was wrong from the start and in being bigger we have gone backwards in speed and mobility-look at our metres gained in the big league- our packs only more mobile than Warriors!!!

Dont tell me that Mobility and speed are not somehow related-especially side to side-- when you are lighter and smaller you are more likely to be faster and agile and sharper around the field NOT JUST DOWN THE TOUCHLINE!!!!

I think we have a very immobile pack but your argument was we had a slow pack and dont think we do. Sure mobility and speed are interrelated but they are not the same thing.

By the way have you ever seen Cannings? Give him space iand he is very quick. Hard to belive but he is one of the quickest in the club over 40 metres.

Cannings,Armitt, Tsoulos, Stapleton,Caless are all too IMMOBILE to be in the second rower the whole match!!

Well Smithy does not see this until perhaps now he may have learnt1
But wait for last minute changes--- Still doesnt hide the fact Smithys thinking is not right-he got the balance all wrong in the off season and the message is getting through slowly through other packs showing us up in the ruck speed and sharpness and etc and etc

I thought the whole idea of the bigger is better offseason madness was that there would be plenty of players ready to step up if there were injuries. They seem to be striuggling now. I definately don't want to see any more wounded.

I think Parras greatest trouble is their backline. Apart from Grothe, no one is demonstrating any real class, apart from mcKinnon on occasions.

Im not saying all those do but they all are on field at the same time which means Armitt does and Stapleton has and Cayless has-while the others have been in the pack at the same time!

Where are our MasonGrimaldi /Feeney's, Fitzgibbon/Crocker/fLANNERY mobility in the backrow?

Its ok to have big props with mobile, agile, sharp backrowers- that is the modern trend!!!!- tell Smithy that.

Read the article today, surprised by Dykes' attitude a little bit. It seemed to me that he though Smith was in the wrong, he mentioned a few times how he was expected just to change his game after 11 years or whatever. It's fair to say his form has been down and he does need to do something.

It's not an unreasonable request by Brian. It's clear that Dyke's is out of sync with the rest of his team. It's better to have 1 player change their play to fit in with the rest of the team, than to have an entire team change their play to fit in with him (ala Kimmorley @ Cronulla).
