The gap left in salaries by Sonny's departure meant we already could go after Williams (yes, he has a real name!), and we've already expressed interest in him well before Maitua had his c*ck up.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that the money that SBW's departure freed up meant that we front-loaded contracts as not many more players were available on the open market and we also signed Gordon with what little cap space we had left, did we not?

You are wrong. Front-loading contracts doesn't mean we don't have spare money - the money was used to front-load 2008 contracts and some of it was used to sign our 2009 newbies. Remember this is Mason, Sherwin and Sonny we're talking about - a lot of combined money.

We've still got plenty of money hanging about as a result, particularly for the 2010 season.
