I urge you all to read below. Foxsports came out with an article this morning, please read the bit in bold and then answer me the question WHO IS LYING?

NSW Rugby League chairman Geoff Carr today came out in support of Anthony Minichiello over claims the State of Origin player's mobile phone was used to leave an obscene message for a woman.

Carr said he believed Minichiello's phone had been lost or stolen before the alleged call was made.

A 27-year-old woman complained to Minichiello's club the Sydney Roosters of receiving a message from his phone at 3.41am yesterday saying, in part, "(Woman's name), where the f... are you? There's four toey humans in the cab...and you're in bed. F... me - fire up".

Carr said Minichiello strongly denied making the call and had said he'd lost the phone in the early hours and wasn't aware it was gone until he woke up at the team hotel.

Carr said Minichiello is a person of high integrity and he believes him.

He added that investigations into the incident are continuing.

Carr said he was disappointed three NSW players had not returned to the hotel until after 7am yesterday, having spent the whole night out celebrating the start of the Origin camp.

Carr said there had been no team curfew so they had broken no rules.

The team management had cleared the trio over claims of bad behaviour on a public bus as they made their way back to the team hotel in Coogee.

Carr said there would be a review of team camp procedure and bonding sessions in the wake of bad publicity today and did not rule out implementing a curfew and an alcohol ban.

"If they (the players) blink they will be front and back page of the newspapers. A couple of them blinked," said Carr.

"They have to be aware that they are different to everyone else. I thought that message was already through to them."

Sydney Roosters coach Ricky Stuart also backed Minichiello.

"Look, if Anthony Minichiello told me or told the public that he's lost his phone, told the management in regards to the Origin team, I believe Anthony," Stuart told Radio Station 2GB.

"He's not a guy who tells lies, he's not a guy who going on what you're saying in regards to the transcript does use that language and has that in mind.

"So if Anthony says that I fully believe Anthony and support him on that."

So, did the woman really say that or is the report full of shit??????

Its one or the other, and i want an answer. If its the media, then Minichello has every right to sue these bastards for defamation

Cheers,
Moffo

I think all this is being blown out of proportion. But if the NSWRL wants to suspend Gasnier, what about the other 3 players allegedly in the cab? Who are they and did they contribute to the situation?.... Are these 4 players the 3 players the ones on the bus? I mean you penalise Gasnier so severely, but what contribution have others made to this?

Maybe it was just my imagination but I swear when i first read a story on this last night the message said something more like "..and your best in bed"?
Take the best bit out and the message isnt half as bad. It barely looks sexual to me at all.

I do think there should be some transparency about who the other players were... the lack of transparency about some of these situations is just making the whole thing worse in the public mind. So people then just speculate on who they are, who they aren't, it puts the innocent players under suspicion..

Maybe they should have fined one or more players for a non-specific amount and not released anyone's names and let them keep playing?

One voice left the message, that is all there is to it irrespective if he was egged on or not, he did it. It was his voice. his choice of words. He could have said no. No one pointed a gun at his head. Stop trying to draw in anyone or everyone into this. One voice left the message.

*Whew* Thank god Gasnier's got no brains and mini's got no balls...the roosters could have finally been busted for SOMETHING they did wrong.

Well, I reckon a few people at the Roosters and Blues/ARL management are lying...

I mean, WHY did Mini claim his phone had been 'lost/stolen'??? He clearly knew it hadn't been. He probably got it back from Gasnier soon after the call was made.

Lying about an alleged crime is worse than Gasnier's phone call, in my book.

Mini, Geoff Carr, Canavan...It's called LYING, you silly bastards.

if someone steals your gun and shots someone, your are partly responsible.

So if someone stole my car and ram-raided a jewellery store, I'd be expected to pay some penalty because I'd be partly responsible?

As for the gun analogy...a mobile phone is hardly a deadly weapon that should be kept in a safe with the sim card kept in a separate safe.

Wait on what hadley says; if Mini was in the cab, and he didn't know the Gaz was using his phone to call a girl he knew...maybe a claim of unconciousness?

Geoff Carr is currently on John Laws's show.

He is basically saying that there IS another voice on the message, and WHEN they find out who that is, that person (if it's a player), will most likely be punted as well.

Official 'tried to defend players'
By Michael Cazzulino
May 21, 2004

THE woman victim of the latest sex scandal to strike rugby league said last night the "apologetic" phonecall she received from the Sydney Roosters left her feeling intimidated.

Roosters CEO Brian Canavan called her promising to investigate fully as the furore grew over the disgusting voice message.

But the 27-year-old woman, who has asked not to be named, told The Daily Telegraph she was left feeling guilty about making a complaint after receiving a sexually-suggestive call at 3.41am.

She complained to the club after she received the call from Anthony Minichiello's mobile phone and a message on her voicemail: "Where the f... are you? There's four toey humans in the cab - it's 20 to four. Our ..... are fat and f..... ready to s... s... and you're in bed. F... me - fire up, you sad ...."

Her complaint ultimately led to the expulsion of Mark Gasnier from the NSW State of Origin team after he admitted using his teammate's phone - but only after a bizarre day of claims and smokescreens from rugby's bosses.

Last night NSWRL general manager Geoff Carr added insult to injury when he rang to say sorry and offered her free game tickets - which she turned down.

The victim said Mr Canavan had warned her on Wednesday night that her behaviour and complaint had put the reputations of several Roosters teammates in question. At least two voices are audible on the tape.

"He said that the media can hurt the reputations of these players, [with] you taking this to the media like you are," she said.

"There's no actual facts that it was Anthony [Minichiello] and Anthony's denied it.

"[Mr Canavan said] I know Anthony and he's an honest kind of guy and this could really hurt his reputation, not to mention Craig [Wing] and [Craig] Fitzgibbon."

The woman said she replied: "That's not really my problem."

Yesterday Mr Canavan defended his actions and claimed that when the woman phoned the club initially she had left her phone number, but had not insisted that her complaint be followed up.

Mr Canavan said he was sorry if he had caused the woman to think that she was being made to feel bad about lodging the report.

"If that's the case, I do apologise - that wasn't my intention.

"This is so unsettling for her, and it's quite disturbing for rugby league," he said.

"I don't want to give the impression that I was trying to brush this aside, because that's not my style.

"We addressed this as quickly as we possibly could. I was just trying to defend reputations where they deserved it, and only where they deserved to be defended."

Mr Canavan said he had kept extensive notes detailing the conversations he had had with the woman over the past two days and rejected the notion his sentiments on Wednesday night had been designed to intimidate.

He described that conversation as "low-key" and said at no stage had the woman seemed upset by his remarks.

"I said other players' reputations could be damaged if a headline [referred to] 'Roosters players'.

"I don't see that that's intimidation - I'm sorry, but I'm not agreeing with that.

"I promised her a full investigation and I did apologise, twice, on behalf of rugby league. That's not intimidatory at all."

Last night, the woman said she was experiencing mixed emotions about going public with the phone message, but said ultimately she could not be held responsible for Mark Gasnier's actions.

A statement late yesterday by Gasnier's club side St George Illawarra described the 22-year-old centre as "tearful" and "apologetic" for his actions.

"I was under the influence of alcohol but I understand I have to be responsible for my actions," he said.

"I have paid a huge price for my actions in the circumstances. It has been my life ambition to play State of Origin.

"I apologise to my partner, my family, my club, my teammates and to the game for the public drama that has been created."
