Some interesting stats ...

We were the worst team in the comp when it came to metres conceded in 2010 but the best in the comp when it came to conceding offloads, second best for conceding line breaks and fourth best for missed tackles.

Discuss.

I am sure from memory we did quite well in metres gained....All i can say is that our forwards did very well this year but our backs and halves did not do anything all year...Generally teams will fail when it is the other way around...

so it seems that it was one mistackle in the defence line leads to the tries against us. So someone beats the frontline defence and runs all way to score, no offload or kick.
So what that is saying is we have a momtenary lapse in defence.

yeah i mentioned this in the individual stats thread. it's not just this year, these stats are very similar every year, they represent our style of defence.....maintain a solid line, don't push up, wrap up the ball.

the downside is that we give away alot of gradual metres in the process and without repeat sets when we do have possession, it means that the opposition invariably win field position and have been nailing us with winning repeat sets off us.

I noticed this year that players like Morts and Tahu pushed up too far ahead of the line and they were exposed...

No - not at all.

We had the 3rd or 4th best defence in the comp. Those numbers simply highlight the fact that we are a very good defensive team.

The problem is an organising, playmaking halfback who can 'get the job done' inside the opposition 20.

The defence sagged a bit towards the end of the year when we were clearly focussing a bit more on desperately trying to score. But it was so difficult without a 'proper' ballplayer...

The simple answer to Parra's problem is: get a good halfback.

The tricky part is finding an available one who is halfway decent....

I'd like to think that we were "1st" in metres conceded :thumn
:lol::lol::lol:

All coach killers and something I doubt DA had in his game plan. Blame the players, not the coach. I would like to think that a bit of deadwood has now been shifted from the club (not including Cayless) and we can make the 8 next year with pure grit and determination.

being serious for a minute .... the telling reason behind being the "#1 team at metres conceded" may have more to do with how much we GAVE the opposition possession (as opposed to how much we get steam rolled) .... if its total metres conceeded then giving the other team the ball all the time gives them every chance to get more metres even if you defend wonderfully

Penalties cost us this year the most in my opinion.

How many times did the opposition score after we gave away a stupid penalty?

Too often.

We are not alone!! Only 3 teams who made the 8 last season made it this year. Dragons, titas and manly. So maybe gives us hope for next year.

except the metres conceeded by us is similar last year and every year.

figure that one out.

Another interesting stat, we have not been a top four side since 2005. We have made the finals 3 times since 2005 and twice it was in 8th spot.
