It's not like Sonny has belted any of the big men of this competition, right? Or England's comp.

You make a great point.
He is a good player im not questioning that, but he does seem to put hits on the smaller players, except for that hit on joel clinton lol i'll never forget that hahahaha

If you want to praise Timana and bag Sonny, take it somewhere else.

He's an incredible player, you can't take it away from him.

Read my posts, i made it clear that sonny bill was a good player, never said he is crap, just that the hits he put on are usually on the smaller players where as tahu in recent weeks has been putting massive hits on bigger players

As I said, take Tahu love somewhere else.

Sonny dominated yesterday and is clearly becoming one of the most dominant in the game.

I'm sick of players having career-best games against the Raiders... 2 in a row! Bowen and now Williams. Save it for someone else please!

I thought it was the ref's fault.

I think Simpkins could have blown more penalties, sure. Doesn't change the fact Sonny Bill was a one-man wrecking machine does it?

Yes, except Clinton multiple times...

and Luke Bailey multiple times...
and Gavin Cooper multiple times...
and Luke O'Donnell multiple times...
and Howe...
and Webcke...
and that big git from Leeds...
and Flannery...
and the ones I missed...

All forwards.

Tahu's great - no doubt about that. But he comes in from his centre position and hits guys when they're not really expecting it (kinda like Meli did so many times). Sonny has shown on many occasions that he can look the biggest guy on the other team in the eye as and knock him on his back.

And Tahu's union-bound. So, who cares?

It was probably only his 3rd best game of the season, after the Warriors and Roosters games

I think he was fine, the first solid performance from a ref in a while. The Raiders were their own worst enemy last night and the only reason things weren't worse was Hazem's off radar.

SBW is devastating at the moment.

full credit to him he has really stepped it up over the last month or so and is the form player of the competition in my eyes. the absence of Mason and O'Meley have probably been a benefit to him and his game.

also, does his form spike correlate to his abstaining from alcohol??

sadly for Timana his hits will be non-existent next year as he will be penalised each time in THAT other game he is off to play.

I am an unabashed SBW fan and just love watching him tear a team apart as he did yesterday to the Raiders and earlier this year v Roosters but I really wanna see him do that vs one of the comps big guns

Once again SBW has proven that he is the best player in the world.
People ask for consistant performances and he keeps on delivering.

Bulldogs talk down Sonny Bill role

Monday, August 13, 2007 - 5:42 PM

Reni Maitua says the Bulldogs have enough firepower to win the NRL premiership even if injury strikes down in-form Kiwi superstar Sonny Bill Williams.

Williams is undoubtedly enjoying career-best form at the moment, scoring his first NRL hat-trick in Sunday's 52-4 thrashing of Canberra.

The quietly-spoken 21-year-old has declined to talk about his outstanding recent performances, keen to not hog the spotlight from his team-mates and also upset at continued media attention on what he does away from the paddock.

But his team-mates remain in awe, Maitua amazed at the "freakish" ability of Williams.

Maitua admitted the star second-rower staying fit was "very important" but said it was not the be-all and end-all of the Bulldogs' charge for the NRL title.

"It's not a one-man team," said Maitua.

"Sonny has individual brilliance but we've just got class all over the park and especially when we've got a full team.

"We're not a Newcastle Knights without Andrew Johns. We've got a team who can win it.

"He is one of our game-breakers and a very important part of our team.

"I think coming into the finals he is going to be a big part of our side and we need him to keep doing what he is doing."

Maitua said he was pleased to see Williams finally enjoy the on-field success he had been threatening to unleash during an injury-marred past two years.

"I'm just really happy for him, especially over the last few years with injury and stuff like that, he just really deserves what he is getting now," said Maitua.

"He is pretty reserved and pretty humble, you know.

"He has that Kiwi shyness in him and is just really humble and that's what makes him a better bloke as well.

"He hasn't got a big head, he doesn't go out there acting like an idiot.

"What he did in 60 minutes of football is pretty freakish. I just can't imagine what it would have been like if he was out there for the whole 80 (minutes)."

The Bulldogs face a tough run to the finals, three Friday night clashes against Brisbane (away), Melbourne (home) and North Queensland (away).

They are just one win outside of a top four berth and Maitua said earning that home final was a definite goal.

"It is definitely in our sights, it would be nice to have a home semi-final," said Maitua.

"It's no time to be comfortable."

But Dogs captain Andrew Ryan warned his men not to get carried away with Sunday's one-sided result over the Raiders.

Ryan labelled Canberra's defence "very ordinary" and joked he was "filthy" that Williams kept getting the ball on the right flank when he was attacking down the left.

"I'm on the other side of the field and just want to get the ball to my side so I was filthy they kept going that way actually," said Ryan.

"We're happy with the performance and happy that we went out there and played for 80 minutes but, without being too disrespectful to Canberra, they were pretty ordinary yesterday and their defence was very ordinary.

"We need to go out and try to play for 80 (minutes) against quality sides and we've got two in the top four and one in the top eight over the next three weeks, so that's when the true test is going to come for us."

awesome player on his day but his hits are over-rated big time, they look spectacular but arnt all that effective... he put a massive shoulder in yesterday on little Micheal Dobson, sure enough it looked good but Dobbo was able to spring straight back to his feet and play the ball no drama, often against bigger blokes his shoulders just direct the ball carriers momemtum off on an angle... look at the shot on clinton a few years ago, he hit him with everything and clinton bounced off and keep going

Also loved his interaction with raiders fans, that sort of thing is good for the game imo

Denounce his hits if you want... he's most dangerous in attack.
