We got 230 all out after 45 overs. Batted pretty crap and it was only a record 10th wicket partnership between Ronchi and Boult that gave us some respectability.

Ronchi got out for 99 the poor bloke.

SA 2/37 in the 10th over

get Amla and de villiers out cheaply and kiwis win this I reckon, long way to go

If only we could bat consistently... in saying that, Williamson and Taylor are huge losses.

A minor calf issue if I remember correctly.

Also it's only Ireland but Ryder took them to the cleaners playing for Otago today. 136 off 57 or something stupid. With our opening struggles I think we almost have no choice but to throw him in if we want to legitimately threaten for the WC.

I cannot believe how much trouble nz have facing Tahir. What a joke!

With a bit of luck the kiwis might just post three figures here...

Humble pie.

We were talked up as genuine World Cup threats (by de Villiers too in a clever piece of reverse psychology) but we're really complete muppets against quality opposition.

No answer to Amla (although Southee was marginally unlucky not to get him), top order clueless, McCullum strictly hit or miss. Badly missed Williamson and Taylor but injuries are no excuse.

Rochi did well for himself but by then the game was dead and everyone knew it including SA.

Death bowling was good.

But honestly we've got some of the dumbest batsmen to play cricket.

It's their second game in quite a long time and first for a couple of them like Southee. SA have had alot more cricket recently and they've been playing their full-strength team.

We are contenders but we need a full-strength team, that's the difference for us as opposed bigger cricketing nations. Missing Williamson and Taylor isn't an 'excuse' but when you're forced to play guys like Brownlie instead of them, the difference is massive.

Agreed on McCullum though, he needs to pitch in more runs. Same with Anderson. Our openers are also a concern. I was warming to Guptill after his great run of form about a year ago but I'm starting to be convinced he just can't handle quality bowling or the swinging ball, hence why he sucks at tests.
