The South Sydney Rabbitohs have Matthew Johns in their sights as they begin recruitment for their return to the NRL Premiership next year. Johns has been granted a release from Wigan to return to Australia because of family considerations.
And his manager, John Fordham, began negotiations with the Rabbitohs on Tuesday.
Southsâ coach Craig Coleman explained: âMatty Johns is a not only a very good player. He has also been a strong supporter of Souths and he comes from a working-class background as the son of a coalminer. Heâs the type of player weâre interested in signing.â
Fordham also held talks with Chris Anderson, who will coach the Sharks next season, before Anderson left for New Zealand with the Australian Test team.
A third, unnamed, club is also said to be interested in Johnsâ services.
