I have some good mates who are Manly fans and I would admit that they are smarter than me in most things but when it comes to football I tip them out.

What Souths has done appears perfectly logical to me. Gives the players a break from running up sand hills(they did that in November and I am not sure what benefit it gives).

It also shows other teams players that Souths is a progressive team.

Can you imagine George Ndaire talking to his ex teammates (who he had been slogging it out with 2 weeks earlier)?

This is what it is all about. Talent! Talent! Talent!

Next time Messrs Cherrington, Jones and Kennedy come off contract who will they want to move to?

They will be sent to souffs if theyre not up to 1st grade standard.;-)

We all differ in our ideas on footy, thats sweet.

I do enjoy the fact you have an opinion and back it with something.

I dont agree a 2wk, I think 2wk???, trip to the states is of any use in january.

In my opinion a base of fitness now is whats required to survive 26rnds, semis and rep footy.

When players do the hard work together preseason, push each other physically and mentally, the results usually show late in the season. Its a look in the eye thing. That going thru all that pain for that crucial moment in a season.

I dont see where that mental toughness comes in another country??? Your mind relaxes holidaying/sightseeing/promoting.

A tours different, like with a Test team. They have a mission, focus a goal.

Just the long plane trip. Your body struggles for 3-4 days after it. Trainings actually a big risk in that period, especially in that weather. Then they get the same thing on the way home. JT himself was quoted saying he wasnt pleased with the distruptions, and they hadnt trained like they wouldve back home. They also had injuries, hammys, thats common in cold weather. Hammys can be very troublesome thru a season.

But each to their own.

I am not sure where you are coming from but I remember reading this article in the paper nearly 2 years ago ( I don't need to go searching the web like you).

My thoughts were that Crowe was getting his own back at the jounalists who seem to follow his every move. Now I can't say that I had read any of this journalist's writings prior to the article and have not seen once since, which shows alot about his credibility. However, at the time I thought that Crowe had offered very little but gained a lot of knowledge about how a jounalists mind would work.

All in all, I would say that this article showed how smart Crowe was when it came to dealing with the media.

I wasnt searching the web mate.

I worked for RLW. At the time I met Jack Marx thru a very good friend who wasnt just my boss at the mag, hes also a souffs member.

He put me on to the article.

Its more about the mans ego and manipulation techniques especially over the media when he can.

Like Brad Walter maybe??? The journo souffs paid to cover the US trip.

Did you actually read the article now???

Cos it may have new meaning when you do.

Can you imagine.... if Souths fans had not voted for Crowe and HaC - souths would have still been fighting for a 12 thousand seat stadium in Redfern. They would likely have lost more money. I have always said I hated Souths because they (Piggins etc) just complained and blamed everyone else for their situation. I was one who believed they should have been kicked out (and maybe it was a turning point ultimately) but I am sure glad that we have a strong souths.

Just remember you are still going to get bashed and flogged by Melbourne come game time.

Congrats on the acheivements, lead the way in being the most proactive club in RL not the ball and chain.

It must be time the NRL and Super League at least considered a semi pro comp in the US owned at least partly by NRL and Super League clubs. If Jacksonville Axemen can pull a couple thousand and that will go up this year - it has to be possible elsewhere in the USA.

Leeds Rhino website game report
http://rabbitohs.nospam2248.com/index.cgi?board=sff&action=post&thread=41284&quote=564889&page=1 RHINOS 26 SOUTHS 24 The Rhinos defeated the South Sydney Rabbitohs 26-24 at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville.
Leeds scored five first half tries to lead 26-0 at half time but the Rabbitohs hit back after the break to push the Rhinos all the way.
The Rhinos kicked off at Hodges Stadium in cold conditions but with the rain from earlier having eased off.
The pre-match hype could have become a distraction for the Rhinos as the Russell Crowe show rolled into to town but they made the best possible start when they scored the opening try through Matt Diskin. There was an element of good fortune when Gareth Ellis' offload was knocked back over the line by the Souths defender and Matt Diskin was on hand to touch the ball down. Kevin Sinfield added the conversion to make it 6-0.
The Rhinos doubled their lead after 16 minutes when Lee Smith intercepted a looping pass ten metres from his own line. He offloaded to Clinton Toopi, who released Brent Webb to race 80 metres up field and score. Sinfield converted the try to make it 12-0.
Leeds had another great chance three minutes later when Jamie Peacock produced a monster hit on Jaiman Lowe that turned over possession. Danny McGuire burst clear but was just stopped by the last defender.
Both teams had a short two minute break after 20 minutes to take on water but the Rhinos continued their dominance at the re-start. McGuire put in the initial kick and it was hacked ahead by Diskin before Rob Burrow raced through to touch the ball down. Sinfield added his third goal to make it 18-0 after 22 minutes.
The onslaught continued after 26 minutes when Keith Senior made the extra man out wide and powered his way over from close range. Sinfield was unable to add the conversion but the Rhinos now led 22-0.
The Rhinos made a perfect finish to the first half with a try in the last second. Luke Burgess gave the move momentum with a crashing run in midfield before offloading to Burrow. He arced across the field before grubber kicking to the corner. Senior was taken out as he went for the ball but Scott Donald was in support to score the try. Sinfield missed the touchline conversion but the Rhinos now led 26-0 at half time.
Brian McClennan made a host of changes at half time with next weeks game against Hull KR in mind. The disruption took time for Leeds to settle back into their defensive pattern and the Rabbitohs took advantage with two tries.
Prop Michael Greenfield burst through to set up the first try which was scored by stand off Ben Rogers. Then, after 54 minutes, hooker Issac Luke burst through some poor defence to score. Eddie Paea converted both tries to make it 26-12 to the Rhinos.
The Rhinos had a try disallowed for Senior after a great offload by Ali Lauitiiti however the Great Britain international was only just able to get the ball down before he went out of play.
Souths went down the other end of the field and nearly added a third try just before the hour mark but it took a great cover tackle and good support by Senior to snuff out the chance.
However, Souths did get their third try with 17 minutes remaining when Eddie Paea stepped his way through the Leeds defence to score between the posts. Issac Luke added the extras to make it 26-18.
It looked like Souths would score a certain try with 11 minutes remaining when Paea broke through again but it took an incredible tackle by Nick Scruton to stop him, who then rolled under the ball to stop him getting the ball down.
Leeds held their line well and ran down the clock so that when Souths did score through George Ndaira it could not effect the result. The same converted his own try to make the final score 26-24 to the Rhinos and capped a worthwhile trip to Florida for Brian McClennan and his side
