Todays Maingame by Josh Massoud in the Daily Telegraph (18 Sept 2009) states:
The word between Redfern and Leichhardt is that Souths were ultra-keen to have Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheen on board next season.
Several inner-city sources were this week adamant that Sheens was sounded out last Friday to take over from Jason Taylor.
But Sheens barely had time to swallow the approach before it was shut down. Although Sheens has missed the past four final series, the Tigers feel they are on the cusp of an exciting revival in 2010.
Damn, where did the shut down come from WT / Souths? WT remain entranced by Teflon with the promise of another exciting revival- this time for 2010. Whilst I reckon WT are potentially almost there for the main squad but they are short of depth, their tactical and goal kicking looks to remain suspect and their recruitment seems to be all over the place. Whilst I agree they are on the cusp of a better year I still say I doubt Sheens is the man to get them there. I hope Im wrong but
Having said that, letting Sheens go at this stage of preparations for the 2010 season probably would not have been too easy (unless the offer was too good to refuse). He has made his bed with player recruitment and player disposal, the squad is how he wants it- let Sheens now endure the sporting gods vagaries for the 2010 season and be judged on what they can and cannot do under his tutelage.
