Maybe Spain need to challenge countries with a bit more experience than Belguim in order to improve further. Serbia? Italy residents? Lebanon?

Serbia, they've been at it for a while. It'd be nice to recognise them as the senior member of our fledgling nations.

Yes, they are very impressive.
I'm more wondering which 'next level' country is most appropriate to stretch Spain into improvement but not that strong as to beat them into retreat.

Serbia would flog Spain. There are plenty of nations like Hungary, Czech Republic, Greece etc that they could face.

What about the Scandinavian nations?

In Denmark, we are prioritising domestic development and putting less emphais son internationals.

To justify this, we have started a youth team up and introduced into schools this year. We have hosted a match officials tutor course this weekend and will be hosting a coaches tutoring course later in the year too (with people attending from Wales, Germany and Sweden). We are also targetting what would be very novel sponsorship deals (we have recruited a former international catwalk model for the purpose of chasing it up. It is a lot for a country that can seem like a plodder from the outside and about as much as we can cope with atm.

Sounds promising Steve and well done on concentrating on domestic development.

How has the response been from the youth about RL?

Don't take it the wrong way mate but I started a thread for Spanish RL News to keep all things Spanish in one place.

Sorry mate, forgot all about the original thread (did a sneaky at work !).

Feel free to have moved if you want / can.

Should arrange a SEQ Internationalists gathering one day !

Steve, what do you believe Denmark needs right now? What is the top of the priority list? Obviously money is always helpful, but what product or service does denmark really need?

Enthusiastic at events, but that is not too much to get excited about. Rugby union is small, but established here. American football is televised and has about ten times the interest of rugby union. There is also an AFL presence and even gaelic football (though we have overtaken gaelic football).

Rugby league progresses quickly with there is no established team contact sport and there is a thirst for it. That is not the case here, particuarly when american football has a good television slot and a glamorous show case.

That said we do have a new youth team forming in Jutland with an international sponsor brought on board. However, it is going to be hard work to stay still and harder to work to progress (it is happening though).

Technical expertise. Good quality coaching and match officials are very important. The coaching brings players into the sport and good quality match officials are essential for games to be enjoyable to watch and play, as well is ensuring there is not excessive violence.

Also, volunteers need to be compentent, have time and commitment. We rarely have someone who has two of these traits, all three is pretty much unheard of.

Sorry for the drift, can this be moved?

That's fine mate, I thought one thread just dedicated to news from that particular nation would be good for those who don't come on here regularly, who may want to catch up with the news in one place rather than have 20 different threads for one bit of news.

Thanks for the reply Steve, I wish you well.
