Don't drink spirits much because it gives me crazy indigestion. But my go to is Coruba Jamaican Rum. Can drink that all day. Also had a bottle of Caramel Tequila the other week, but i think that is more Liqueur than spirits. Tasty as hell though.

I came across an interesting creature at the local bottle last night.

Diva V Kat 700 mL at 22% alcohol for $9.99 a bottle. The bottle guy explained it was like a vodka imitation but made from Aussie grapes so it is exempt from the high excise on spirits.

Bought a bottle and gave it a go. Smells like vodka, looks like vokda - 1/3 Diva, 2/3 orange juice with ice. Wow!! It tasted 100 times better than that Crystal Head shit I mentioned in my OP.

Time to get some more I reckon!

That company just went tits up! I got told this by store owners since the company I work for makes a similar product called Vostok, and people have been chasing me for it (love an easy sale!). Where are you based veg, if it's in my territory I will hit up your local.

Well that explains why I can't access their website.

The bottle shop I bought the Diva from is called Branyan Cellars and is based at Avoca in Bundaberg. It is licensed under the East End Hotel, Bundaberg East.

It might be a bit far from the wrong side of Riverwood. Funnily enough, I grew up there before moving to the NSW South Coast.

The wrong side of Riverwood must be Punchbowl.

Yup, on the Punchy side of Riverwood!

Ask your bottle shop bloke about Vostok, it is available in the wholesalers up there. Or tell him to get in touch with his Cumulus / Epoch rep.

Seems to be a lot of posts about CC which I assume to be Canadian Club scotch. I thought it was a budget spirit like Black Douglas.

Does it come in a 700 mL bottle or just in premixed cans? My missus gets one occasionally from the local bottle on the way home from the sports club.

It is a mild run of the mill spirit IMO that has been overmarketed and over hyped.

Jim Beam Devils Cut is a quiet achiever and solid...

Pretty much just scotch these days for me, have it with just abit of ice. The Islay region smokey taste is easily my favourite. It can be a tough one to start on, would recommend Bowmore if you haven't had one before. Very nice.

Got a bottle of smokehead on Saturday, young scotch, but a massive taste. Going to get a bottle of Big Peat next as it's supposed to be a bigger taste again. Any one else got recommendations along these lines?

If you are after a classic smooth tasting scotch these are generally not for you.

I will drink most scotches that are on offer if I have to though, try not to mix them with anything but maybe a touch of water.

forward pass

Any rum connoisseurs out there? Any recommendations for a new rum? Anyone tried Kraken rum?

Angostura 5yr old or 7 yr old rum for me. Real Caribbean rum - as it should be.

Very pricey but 1919 is an unbelievable drop. Kraken is a Caribbean rum but is a mix of several. Don't like it.
