Tigers v Eels
VENUE & TIME: Leichhardt Oval, Sunday May 30 - 15:00 AEST
COVERAGE: Fox Sports
LAST TIME: Eels 21 - Tigers 18 at Parramatta Stadium, round 21, 2003
WALKING WOUNDED
Prop Bryce Gibbs is out for another week with a back injury for the Tigers.
The struggling Eels have lost winger Eric Grothe Jr indefinitely with a hamstring injury. Props Aaron Canning and Nathan Cayless return from broken arms in rounds 14 and 16 respectively.
FORM
The Tigers currently occupy eighth position on the ladder following a shock 30-26 win over the Bulldogs in Gosford. Coach Tim Sheens has done a terrific job in moulding this unfashionable unit together.
The same cannot be said of Eels coach Brian Smith, who experienced an embarrassing defeat last week against an unrecognisable Dragons side. The Eels have now lost four home games on the trot and have slipped out of the top-eight as a result.
WHO'S HOT
Tigers fullback Brett Hodgson. The former NSW fullback is back to his best, mirroring his stellar 2001 season. If things go wrong for Ben Hornby, don't be surprised if the courageous Hodgson makes a comeback to rep footy for the Blues.
WHO'S NOT
Eels coach Brian Smith has wielded the axe this week, dropping no less than five players. The most notable of those was five-eighth Adam Dykes. Pathetic was the best way to describe his crab-like performance against the Dragons last week. Running across field at every opportunity is not the way to stamp your authority on a game.
KEY MATCH-UPS
Benji Marshall v Michael Witt
Ben Galea v Nathan Hindmarsh
Scott Sattler v Daniel Wagon
LIKE TO SEE
The choice of Michael Witt at five-eighth give the Eels a bit of direction. Fans have been calling for the promising Witt's inclusion, it's now time for him to deliver - somebody has to.
WOULDN'T LIKE TO SEE
Eels second-rower Nathan Hindmarsh forced to play a lone hand once again for his embattled club. It's time for the Eels pack to work as one.
WE THINK
The Tigers will be buoyed by a big home crowd and should be too strong for the directionless Eels. Parramatta is a mess and will struggle once again for combination due to mass changes. One team is playing with confidence, while the other is barely playing. Tigers by 12.
