Whilst not a huge horse racing fan, there are not many events bigger then the Spring racing carnival held down in Melb each year. The race that stops a nation, where practically everyone has their once a year bet

But in the mean time, i thought id start a thread on it and see what everyone thoughts...tips, comments, ideas...throw em down!

Cox Plate Winner: Clangalang

Caufield Cup: Mummify

Melbourne Cup: Strasbourg

Caulfield Cup is a lottery this year but I will lean towards Strasbourg who many people forget ran a brilliant race to run down Mummify and come 2nd to Clangalang in the AJC Derby. Strasbourg is very well weighted in both the cups carrying less weight than Mummify despite beating Mummify in the AJC Derby.

In the Cox Plate Lonhro is the obvious horse to beat but there is still a question mark over his ability to do anything more than sit and sprint especially on a wet track and over 2000m. IMO, the inclusion of Shower of Roses will make this race anything but a sit a sprint and will work against Lonhro big time. If Shower of Roses runs, Clangalang is in this race upto his ears especially if it rains. Clangalang is no certain starter though.

Melbourne cup. Who knows. If Vinnie Roe runs he is obviously a good chance. Mummify and Strasbourg should figure in the finish although you never know at 3200m. If it rains look out for Grey Song who stormed home in the Sydney Cup (3200m) coming from a long last on the home bend to just miss out.

Yeh, form counts for little in the melb cup. With such a big field and distance, comes down to luck in running. Several of the past years it has been the horse who had a big plunge put on it at the end who has won....the WA horse a few years back springs to mind..Rogan Josh wasn't it??

Anyway, i hope Clangalang races Lonhro over 2000 and smashes it :p

I agree with Stratsbourg mate, its a huge chance in both races. Get on

Cheers,
