Let this be a lesson for all of you...

NO ONE ARGUE WITH WEEPING WILLOW!

As Legend has pointed out, he is the master of jumping to conclusions, putting words in your mouth and a true conspiracy theorist.

St george have neither a Leauges club backing have as say Souths have, Juniors are lacking but that hasn't bothered the Roosters too much, so i am personally of the opinion they jumped before they were pushed.

Either way, i'm glad they are there, i love to hate St George....[/img]

Geezus... I never saw that coming. Damn right... and keep shouting... can never be sure who might be hard of hearing.

So dub... you've managed to find your other Canberra 'men' from LWOS... and to think they did their level best to leave you out of the loop. LOL

Well if I am to decipher that, I think you have suggested that a smaller junior base doesnt stop teams like Easts prospering... which I agree with.

But you are also saying that St George do not have the backing of their Leagues Club..? Now I have no desire to offend your sensibilities and jump to any conclusions, so please elaborate on that point.

If that is what you were after why not just come out and say it, instead of fishing for an answer that you can pin your argument on. No surprises really, any chance to sink the boot in to a club that has everything canberra does not, tradition. It is a shame that an obviously intelligent person lets blind hatred cloud his thought process.

In answer to your question.

I dont know, either do you or does anyone else.

Why because they were never a stand alone club past that year.

Tradition does not develop over four years or five seasons. And by the way, Canberra have more premierships than you.

LOL... thankyou Moffo. The answer is 91-6

See, this, my friends, is why St.George-Illawarra supporters want the history of St.George, another club, to be incorporated into theirs. Living on past glories because they haven't had any in around thirty years.

Johnsy, I agree with you by saying I don't know either. It is just my opinion. I stated this at the very start of the discussion.

Where do you think St George would be now if they had not gone ahead with the joint venture?

I'm not saying what St George did was wrong. They did what they thought was best for the long term future of the club. It was my assumption (i.e reading between the lines) that the club would have struggled if it had not gone into the joint venture. Again, this is my opinion only and not fact.

What process was undertaken to get the joint venture approved? Can someone enlighten me. Did the football club members vote and was possible extinction used as a point to try and sway those against the joint venture?

My my.. thats quite a long bow to draw. FYI, its a running joke between Moffo and I. Besides, he asked 'who are St George?'

If he asked 'who are the Sharks?' the answer would have been limited to a cough... just enough so I could clear the small amount of phlegm that it would leave my respiratory tract.

Phlegm, an awesome word indeed. How many words in the english dictionary would start with the first three letters NOT containing a vowel or the letter Y??

hmmm... not many I suspect.

Just realised that Tamazoid is judging the Bluebags in the Forums Sevens so I would like to withdraw my statement that the Sharks resemble the stuff we spit out after a bout of the ague.

In fact, the Sharks are a wonderful institution, full of history and pride. When it comes to credibilty, no other club comes close to guys on Captain Cook Drive.

Oh yes... and the Sharks home ground is sensational stadium where personal hygiene is paramount and patrons have nothing to fear from the Culicidae who emanate local waterways.

How'd I go ref? 8)

If anyone wants to get caught up in the semantics of an argument well let it be. The point being the clubs name is St George - Illawarra. Yes it is a new club, but in the name alone, it shows that the history of the St George Dragons remains. If you cant accept that, well I suggest you buy a slice of reality down at the local store. Heck I will even spot you the $5 needed for a slice. The jumper has links to St Georges past, as does the emblem, and the name says it all.

Legend point taken. I think they would have survived, but in what capacity ???? One thing the merge did was ensure a successfull football side, and the clubs future.

When St George win the Premiership i feel it should say:

St George Illawarra Premiership: 16 (St George 15, St George Illawarra 1)

Maybe someone can clarify this but with the merging of the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions in the AFL - when Brisbane won in 2001 was not another premiership added to the Fitzroy Lions?
