Live on the BBC, St Helens win the team of the year award beating the British Ryder Cup team.

Yeah well done to the mighty 'S'.

I thought the BBC were rather tight with their coverage of it though, it seemed a rather reluctant celebration of our achievements. This was a n award voted for by the public, with the Saints beating the European Ryder Cup golf team and the Sussex County Cricket club. The rugby league community mobilised very well indeed for this one in order to get the sport some exposure.

Don't forget also that Daniel Anderson picked up 'Coach of the year' at the awards in recognition of his polishing Saints into the world class side they've been under his control.

Congrats to the Saints but I can't help but be cynical about this.It's great for the game but it smacks of lip service to me.I didn't watch it and never do so the scant coverage on Saints doesn't surprise me. As a point to back up my cynicality just look who the winner of the main award was with a third of the votes ! I just can't believe in the authenticity of these awards.

Saints polled 68% of the vote, the London press are none to happy that a Northern team won it. Saints Coach Daniel Anderson also won Coach of the Year, making Saints the first team to collect both awards in the same year since 1966, when the World Cup winning England team did it.

Didn't catch the whole broadcast, and of course missed the scant press coverage of such a good result for rugby league.
