Statues Of Rl Players Across The Globe

Hi all - I'm keen to add a page to RL1908 on the statues of RL players around the globe.

In Australia there is Dally Messenger (Sydney Football Stadium), Wally Lewis (Lang Park) & Laurie Daley (Canberra Stadium).

In England? Willie Horne, Brian Bevan - any details of locations and other players I've missed?

Is there any in France - I've heard there is one for Puig Aubert. Any others?

In NZ I don't think there are any.

Any comments/contributions most appreciated.

Brian Bevan's statue is now outside the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington.

I believe Salford are keen to get a Gus Risman one outside the new stadium if and when it gets built!

I've found here http://www.wigan.gov.uk/pub/planning/art-trail/pdfs/no10.pdf (includes a photo) saying that there was a sculpture of a large rugby football erected on the former site of Central Park in Wigan in 2001. It was decorated with the images of Jim Sullivan, Billy Boston, Tom Bradshaw and Joe Egan.

Anyone know if it is still there?

Former North Sydney (1956-58) and Leigh (1950-54) RL player and later ABC RL commentator Trevor Allen is latest player to have a sculpture/statue made in his honour. Allen had a distinguished RU career before crossing to RL with Leigh. You can read about Allen and see the sculpture (erected near Dally Messenger sculpture at the SFS) on the ARU website.
