One for Souths fans.

Steve Mavin. We all know what happened to him in that fateful semi-final. Was he a good player that year? (like Paul Carige before his semi) or could you see his shocker a mile away (like David Williams)?

Mavin was a mug lair on the field.

That shocker against Canberra in 87 failed to dampen his cockiness. I remember seeing him egging on and laughing at the Gold Coast Giants defence in 1989 on his way to a long-range try.

It was one of those moments were you were praying for the prick to drop the ball at that vital moment.

He's a decent bloke off the field from what I've heard.

yeah, there was certainly no shortage in the confidence department with Mavo and in the end it was probably his undoing on that fateful arvo cos from what I've heard and read he fronted up pre match late and looking a lot worse for wear from the night before - his co-ordination was shot to pieces as evident in the first 20 minutes until he got hauled off - i have also heard he has made it up to the club in spades ever since and we probably would have lost anyway cos Canberra had the wood on us in those years and would have put plenty on us that day anyways:x
