Saw this on the NRL site.

Fittler has mentioned in the NRL News video that he has heard Beaver will be back in the NRL next season.

I know he is not being re-signed by Bradford, he wants one more year, a few Super League clubs are interested, first I have heard about him coming back to the NRL though.

He only needs one more game to break the record, maybe a cheap contract like Kennedy signed with match payment!

Unfortunately he'd need to play more than one to keep the record for any longer than half a season though with Lockyer currently sitting on 333 games.

Bring back Cliffy for one more game with the Beaver !!

MANLY great Steve Menzies could be set to make a return to the NRL next year to break Terry Lamb’s record as the highest capped player in the game.

Menzies has spent the past two seasons playing for English club Bradford.

Off contract, the 36-year-old backrower is still keen to play for another season.

At least three English clubs are interested in accommodating the Sea Eagles’ legend, with a return to the NRL an option.

“Never say never,” Menzies’ manager, Wayne Beavis, told The Manly Daily.

“I’m sure he could still play (in the NRL), it’s whether Manly could fit him under the salary cap. I’m sure he wouldn’t play at any other club.”

Ex-Sea Eagle John Gibbs said the return of Menzies would be great for the club and code.

“This would be significant as he’s played 349 games, which is equal to Terry Lamb, and he would go past him,” Gibbs said.

“You would think Manly would be the most likely spot.”

Menzies retired from the NRL in 2008 after leading the Sea Eagles to a brilliant, grand-final flogging of Melbourne.

That 40-0 win was Menzies’ 349th appearance in first grade, equalling Lamb.

Another Sea Eagles icon, Cliff Lyons, said Menzies could still cut-it in the NRL.

“If he’s playing good enough footy, why not? He’s only a young fellow,” Lyons said.

“I think it would be great for Manly and great for Steve.”

Manly CEO Graham Lowe was unavailable for comment, but the Daily understands club officials are keen to get Menzies on board.

not sure.. as much as i love the man, the 40-0 victory i feel was the perfect send off for him

i thought the same, but a 60-nil over saints with 3 tries to the beaver would be better!

if beaver wants, beaver gets IMO!

Yeah that's it, if he wants to come back and play then he should, I'll even meet him at the airport and give him a welcome home hug.

I think he will stick to over there though.

why ruin the fairy tale ending that was 40-0.

lockyer will have the record soon anyway, so just take another year of the cash beaver then come home and help coach us.

Not happening according to Lowe.

I’ve heard a rumour that Steve Menzies might be coming back to play for Manly next year. Is that a rumour or are you guys serious about him?
Chis

That is just a rumor Chris, Steve won't be playing for us next year.
He also answered my question, got the expected answer.

Are there ever going to be official announcements re: signings?

HE MAY be interested in a final year at Manly but salary cap pressures will prevent club legend Steve Menzies from returning to Brookvale next season.

Menzies is back in Sydney for the birth of his second child and yesterday expressed an interest in playing another year in the NRL.

The Manly star, now 36, has played the past two seasons with Bradford but is now a free agent.

Three English clubs have shown interest and elements at Manly would love Menzies back at Brookvale, but it won't happen.

And how could Menzies ever top his final match for Manly - the 2008 grand final which ended in the famous 40-0 scoreline?

"I'd obviously take a look at it if there was an offer put in front of me," Menzies said yesterday.

"I'm pretty keen to play one more season, the body feels good and I think I can still compete at that level.

"It's more likely that I'll play another year overseas. But I'd consider coming back."

Manly officials simply claim there is no room left in the club's salary cap.

Menzies is adamant Manly can repeat their 2008 success.

"On their day, they can produce as good as any team, we are still a good chance," he said. "We've got the right balance of players there, but we've got to be at full strength.

"If they win their next two games they can be in the top four, then anything can happen."

MANLY great Steve Menzies is open to offers to return to the NRL as he contemplates another season of top-flight rugby league.

The off-contract 36-year-old told The Manly Daily he is ready for one more year and would consider an offer to have another season in the NRL.

“I’d obviously take a look at it if there was an offer put in front of me,” Menzies said on Thursday.

“I’m still looking around. I’m pretty keen to play one more season, the body feels good and I think I can still compete at that level.

“It’s more likely that I’ll play another year overseas. But I’d consider coming back.”

Manly CEO Graham Lowe indicated the Sea Eagles are within the salary cap and are unlikely to lure Menzies back.

He last played in the NRL in the 2008 grand final thumping of the Melbourne Storm.

For the past two seasons he has been playing for the Bradford Bulls in the English Super League.

Menzies said Manly’s current squad is capable of repeating their premiership success, provided they get a couple more players back from injury.

“On their day, they can produce as good as any team, we are still a good chance,” he said.

“We’ve got the right balance of players there, but we’ve got to be at full strength.

“If they win their next two games they can be in the top four, then anything can happen.”

Meanwhile, Sea Eagles utility back Ben Farrar is expected to depart the club at season’s end to play in England.
