Storm's ripper and grapple tackle technique

Anyone see Fox NRL tonight?

They've shown footage of the latest wrestling hold that the Storm are now using, with individual evidence in a number of games already. Bloody disgraceful. It involves a 2nd or 3rd person into the tackle taking hold of the non ball carrying arm, pushing and twisting, exerting pressure on to it, most often than not held out at length and pushed down. This is at the same time when one or two first into the tackle are tackling, wrestling down the player. The potential for a very serious injury is significant, the tackled player could fall or twist in a different direction under the weight and push of the original tacklers leading to a very nasty arm break, shoulder injury or pop, elbow twist or break, etc etc.

Bellamy is one of the best coaches in the game today, and a real fav of mine, but this sort of stuff is pathetic and just not needed. The grapple tackle has been a blight on the game, introduced and led by the Storm. With the obvious crack down since the coaches meeting flagged it late last yr the "arm screw" has become the next unhealthy step.

I hope after the exposure on Fox this evening leads to further media exposure and an immediate crack down and outlawed stance.

it's not new as Junior pointed out. they just about tore Cayless' arm off last year

Bellamy should be banned from the game. lower than a snakes belly

The techinical term is ' ripper '. It's initated by a prowler, then works it's way to the head for a 'grappling crusher'. And finished off with a Stone Cold Stunner.

Wait until Paul Gallen does it... then it'll be a really big deal.

your kidding. more stuff about the storm ?? bottom line is it works.

you storm bashers are all just cut you dont have a coach who thinks steps ahead of the rest. even if the storm do do this on purpose. its not against any law of the game

theres a lot of things that can cause injuries in rugby league. soon it will become illegal for dallas johnson to tackle as hard as he can and inglis to stop palming everyone off so hard... maybe even ryan hoffman to stop running so hard because he might hurt someone when they try to tackle him!

give it a break. its gotta stop somewhere

The Lima instance looked particularly painful.
If a tackler happened to fall on top of them at that time, the players arm would most certainly have been snapped like a twig.

I did not see NRL on Fox tonight but I have noticed that players this year were doing wrestling-style grips on the tackled player's arms and in fact made a comment to the wife about it. But to be honest although I did notice that Melbourne was doing it I'm sure I observed it in other games as well.

Looked pretty bad on the vision they showed tonight. One where the tackler pulled the arm sideways then lent on it with his elbow and whole weight of his body. Gonna be an injury because of this sooner or later.

I wrote into Big League and reported the arm twisting incidents.
I first noticed it against the Warriors. The Warrior player was in absolute pain and after he played the ball he chased the Storm player and was verbally giving it to him. I watched carefully when they played the Sharks and seen it about half a dozen times.
It is a very damaging tackle and only happens when there is three or more in the tackle. I believe it caused the Sharks to lose the ball a few times as the tackled player has no arm to break his fall. I wrote into Big League because I was disgusted with the way it was done by Storm players and was obviously meant to injure the player.
Talk about scum bags.

The major point is they said they couldnt find any evidence of other teams using that technique.

It did look nasty

Congratulations officer. Sort of ironic that you felt it was your duty to "report" the arm twisting incidents when your captain tried to gouge a blokes eye out and re-open his stitches. Not to mention grabbing a bloke on the nuts and having a squeeze. Did you report your captain for being the biggest grub by an absolute street in the game?

Did I say I supported the actions of Gallen.
If you support the wrenching of an arm by a player who is 3rd man inand hell bent on injuring the tackled player, than you have a problem DH.
Good to see Gordon Tallis said it was bad for the game and the players who performed it should get charged. Not one of the commentators agreed with the move and all of them condoned it.
I think the Warriors player was Ropati.
Now f**k Off.

Ice you idiot, we all know it was the storms fault for that too.
They are the creators of all that is bad and evil in the world, while the other 15 teams skip happily around harming no one.
