Strange Dividend!

Roosters 0, Dragons 29 - TAB Sportsbet (NSW) "Pick The Score" dividend $462.70
Are they for real??? Surely there must have been at least $5000 in that pool. Do they expect us to believe at least ten $1 units picked that correctly? Not likely.... and highly suspect.
Where are the police? Us punters need the NRL, NSW Police, Federal Police and any other anti corruption authority to investigate results like that.
If one winning ticket claimed the majority of that dividend. The question begs... Who owned that ticket?
The Queensland TAB discloses the pool size of all totalisator pools. Why doesn't the NSW TAB? The fact that they don't and we are expected to live with dividends like that, simply is not right.

So no one else thought much of it? I bet if you had a dollar on it, you would be pissed because it should have paid $5000 - $10,000.

Incidentally it was Jamie Soward who potted the field goal before half time.

Tonight I felt comfortable enough to have a decent bet on Hazem El Masri to score more than 6.5 points and the Bulldogs to win, for a number of reasons. One of those being my belief that Tony Archer and Ashley Klein are honest and referee truly. My problem being...... there was also two touch judges and a video ref'.
How are we supposed to find a winner between the bullsh!t refereeing and the players. Ironically it was a frivilous appeal by Jamie Soward that cost me tonight.
I feel like a real mug. Punting on rugby league is like dangling your balls in the breeze. It's a real shame because it is also a great thrill. I wish the punters were better looked after.

Hi, I am new to the forum.

Did noticed how low that score paid. Do you know what the average pool is in Pick the Score as I think it is way more that $5,000

I know in one Sunday avro game last year a score (39-12) paid $16,300 and I missed it by one bloody converted try in the dying minutes as my selections were (30-33/6,10,12)

Hi Casey,

Thanks for your interest.

I'm sure you are right about that. I’m not sure what the average is but my suggested $5,000 pool is very conservative. I have tried several times to find out from TAB New South Wales what the pool sizes are and they have always refused to tell me. However the Queensland TAB display the pool sizes on their web site and judging by the size of the “Pick The Margin” jackpots, I think it’s fair to deduct that the NSW TAB pool sizes are generally 3-4 times larger than the Qld TAB pools.

Eg: In round seven the “Pick The Margin” pool jack-potted for both agencies, revealing that the Qld TAB pool was $37,481 and the NSW TAB pool was $141,227.
For the round just gone (Rnd 13) the Qld TAB pool for match 7 (Titans 28, Dragons 24) was $9,088. The dividend was $262.10. This indicates that 26 x $1 units found the correct score.
Eg: $9,088 (pool) less 25% (TAB margin and government taxes) = $6,816 divided by 26 = $262.15.

For the dividend in question (Roosters 0, Dragons 29) I’m not sure of the Qld TAB pool size but the calculation would likely be one of the following:
$7,482 (pool) less 25% (TAB margin and government taxes) = $5,611.5 divided by 2 = $2,805.75. Thats 2 x $1 units found the correct score.
$11,223 (pool) less 25% (TAB margin and government taxes) = $8,417.25 divided by 3 = $2,805.75. Thats 3 x $1 units found the correct score.
$14,964 (pool) less 25% (TAB margin and government taxes) = $11,223.00 divided by 4 = $2,805.75. Thats 4 x $1 units found the correct score.

For argument sake lets assume the NSW TAB pool for that match was $15,000 and their take out margin is the same as the Qld TAB. That would mean the following:
$15,000 (pool) less 25% (TAB margin and government taxes) = $11,250.00 divided by 24 = $462.70

In the scheme of things 24 x $1 units correctly finding that score (Roosters 0, Dragons 29) is a bit much to swallow. Us punters have to cop a 25% deduction from the pools, extremely nominal refereeing results, cheats playing the game and then we are expected to live with obviously suspect results like that. There doesn’t seem to be anyone out there with the slightest regard for us. The punters. How are we to know that the TAB agency isn't fudging the figures or a player hasn't had $20 on each odd score above 20?

ff,

What if there was just one punter that picked the score, and he had $20 on it? Quite likely given the scoreline. Or can you only bet $1?

If the pool was $10,000, one winner with a $20 bet would make the dividend $500.

Well if someone outlaid $20 only and picked that score exactly, then they desrve to win $9,234 but it's a big if.
Its more likely they would have taken something like:
Roosters 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16,18 (ten options) - Dragons 21,23,25,27,29,31,33,35,37,39,41,43,45,47 (fourteen options). Thats 10 x 14 = 140 x $20 for a total outlay of $2800.

It would be financial suicide to regularly place bets like that on the hope that the favourites decide to snap a feild goal before halftime. Unless you know that a field goal will be kicked.

that's the nature of gambling, everything is volatile. For all you know there might be someone who's been putting $20 on a 29-0 scoreline every week for the last 20 years, knowing that when it finally comes up he's likely to be the only one that gets it. Or not, but who knows!

That sounds like another big if.

In fact i played an odd score "Pick The Score" system for years. I have been monitoring the payouts for years. 10-15 years ago i regularly picked up $4,000-$8,000 dividends for scores like that. The dividends have generally halved sinse then due to punters realising the value, i believe.

The dividend in question is beyond belief and us punters are expected to just cop it. Who is looking after our interests?

Knights 23, Raiders 4 - TAB Sportsbet (NSW) "Pick The Score" dividend $2,437.80

Knights were short price favourites. On the Qld TAB it paid on the nearest even scores. If you had it correctly on the Qld TAB, you picked up the pool.

I believe the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing. You could perhaps make an enquiry there?
