How many leagues still operate in winter in the northern hemisphere ?

- France

Has the switch been successful ?

Or should the northern hemispher return to winter ?

The summer switch was a reason for the end of Kangaroo and Lions tours

TV wise you dont get the English games over summer anymore

Outside of the post war era, crowds are significantly larger in Summer than what clubs use to get in Winter.

For the UK, League potentially wouldn't exist as a Professional game without the shift.

Tours were more impacted by Super League and the changing Professional nature of sport than the switch. If regular tours continued after 94', the game would have made them woek, especially if they remained popular and profitable.

Bolded is key. Tours in the old style simply wouldn't exist anymore due to the pushback of Australian clubs. Not when the club game generates so much more of the game's cash.

Agreed, the exception would have been if clubs felt they could make more money from the tours (ie. If the tour matches generated large revenues and the central revenues increased), but too much time has past now for that to even be considered or tested.

The sporting world changed very rapidly between 1990 - 2000, it wasn't just League which went through dramatic changes.

Having spent my youth on freezing terraces yee gods no! Best thing to happen to English RL was moving to summer. Why they kick off in January is anyone's guess!
