The Blues will host the champion Crusaders in the opening match of the 2007 Rebel Sport Super 14 at Eden Park on February 2.
The South African, New Zealand and Australian unions announced the draw under their Sanzar banner with the tournament beginning a week earlier than usual to allow for the World Cup in France later in the year.
The opening match will see the Blues play the Crusaders at Auckland while the opening matches in Australia and South Africa will be in Perth and Johannesburg respectively.
In other opening round matches involving New Zealand franchises, the Highlanders are away to the Western Force, the Hurricanes are away to the Queensland Reds and the Chiefs host the Brumbies in Hamilton.
The final will be played on May 19 and in all the competition will feature 94 matches, 29 of them night games.
The Blues, Sharks, Highlanders, Waratahs, Hurricanes, Western Force and the fifth team from South Africa will all have seven home matches while the Chiefs, Reds, Cheetahs, Crusaders, Brumbies, Bulls and the Stormers will play six games at home.
The identity of the fifth South African team is still not known after a legal dispute.
The South African Rugby Union (Saru) had originally planned for the Port Elizabeth-based Southern Spears to replace that country's bottom-placed team this year, the Cats, for 2007 and 2008.
However, it then decided the Spears were not at "acceptable levels of readiness" with the union casting doubts about the franchise's player, organisational and financial viability.
High Court action followed, in which Saru was told there was nothing conditional about the original agreement.
