An easy start for the new boys...

Sunday, 8 February, 2009

Rd 2 15:00: Harlequins RL v Bradford Bulls

Rd 17 15:00: Wigan Warriors v Wakefield Trinity Wildcats

Can anyone explain the above two fixtures to me?

Harlequins game might have been moved because of a clash of dates with the union club. Wigan's pitch usually has work done on it in the soccer off season so that could be the reason for that, they are just guess's though, so will try and find out for sure.

Harlequins are playing Manly in a friendly when they arrive for the WCC, so have rearranged their fixture. I don't have a clue why they are doing this.

Wigan, probably to do with the pitch like someone said. They had to reschedule a few games this year because of it. Dave Whelan, their former owner, is also the owner of the JJB stadium and has a bit of a grudge against the fans so likes to make life difficult for them.

Much better fixture list here: http://www.superleague.co.uk/fixtures.php?team=&days=&submit.x=10&submit.y=4&submit=login&id=

The Catalans v Warrington game on 20th June is being played in Barcelona's Olympic Stadium, while the August 15th game v Hull FC is being played in Beziers' Stade de la Méditerranée.

Not sure a 8 team play-off in super league is a good idea, its fine for the NRL because of the overall strength of the comp, but some pretty average teams could finish 7th or 8th.

Not COULD ght, will. Technically the team finishing eighth will be below average.

I'm not really in favour of 8 teams but you have to remember that one of the biggest arguments of Promotion and Relegation supporters was that the end of the season will be boring with many teams having nothing to play for.

Obviously that won't be the case, but the RFL probably have gone to 8 teams to counter these people a bit.

I agree that the 8th team will just be 'making up the numbers' but the beauty of the new SL system is that teams will be playing teams of their standard - realistically there is little chance of the best teams facing the worst teams under this final system, keeping the scorelines competitive. Unlike the Mcintyre system which has mismatches like 1 v 8 in the first week.
