The clincher is the massive amounts of publicity it did for the game in UK.

Yeah, baby steps is what it's about I think.

Having spent a week in Wales, I now understand rugby league has really had a tiny presence there relative to rugby union, and football as well. They have an energetic team behind the Celtic Crusaders, but with the league papers/magazines only available to the Welsh public through Brigend Tesco (supermarket) and not sighted in any Cardiff newsagency, it feels very much like London to me, in terms of a frontier for league to eventually just establish itself in.

In that context the crowd response was good, for the first experiment of this type.

Good point Bartman. It is easy to look at ESL and Union premiership drawing equivalent crowds and assume they are supported equally but they are not. I've been to England as well and really the fact is that outside the 30 to 40 Lancs/Yorks RL towns there is almost no visibility for the code. You can go to a place like Warrington or Wigan where the game is as vibrant as in Newcastle or the Western suburbs and then literally 3 miles down the road no one cares and its all Man United or manchester City and the papers are flooded with soccer adn union leaving RL to the bylines.

The code is going fantastic given the circumstances.

I thought the Huddersfield/Bradford match might of cracked 10K.

Disappointing crowd at Wire. Was the weather a factor (playing Quins doesn't help I know)?

Good crowds at the KC and Perpignan.

It probably would have drawn 10k on a Sunday afternoon.

Hull would have probably got around 16k for the game against Leeds if their form hadn't been so poor. Don't know about Warrington, presumably the fans are staying away because of their poor performances.

Another good crowd at Catalans, with very few there from Salford.
