Firstly I'll say that I'm happy Hayne got off, I'm really not a supporter of suspensions at all, especially for Rep matches.

There is so many injuries these days to players that we need to have the all available players on the field when they're able to be. There's nothing more frustrating then seeing perfectly fit players sitting on the sideline next to the injured ones not being able to play because they are suspended. We need our players on the field....

Of course, there should be penalties for foul play, so I think players who get put on report and found guilty should be fined, and not suspended. This way it's actually penalising the player, instead of the club. Anyone agree?

suspend the bastards.

Hayne got off to promote a game - Hayne v Slater

It stinks, just ask any kiwi player suspended a week before a test v Aussie..

The game has lost what little integrity it had left..

Mix of both, up to the discretion of an independent commission. I think losing money is more of a deterrent than missing a game on a personal level for players anyway. Punishing the club and supporters is what happens with suspension

I'm so sick of upcoming representative/finals matches being an excuse for letting players off.
100% agree....
I'm as happy as any NSW that Hayne got off, but just because Origin 2 is around the corner? No doubt if it wasn't Hayne would have been suspended. I suppose all we can hope for is the round 2 we have been waiting for...:)

Id like to see the player and his club given the choice of a suspension or paying a fine (the player, not the club).

If Hayne had to pay any kind of fine he would just have another whinge like he did about only being paid half a million a year at the age of 21 or only getting 4 free tickets to the ANZAC test.

I'd like to see players given 5 in the bin for the bad stuff. Slater should have gone twice (Knees in the first half and elbow) and Hayne once (headbutt).

Maybe a combination of both. Serious offences should still carry suspensions.

Correct.

I think that the Hayne headbutt, the Thurston verbal and the Lewis spear - while all ugly incidents, should be offered the option of paying a fine to escape suspension.

If a player is unwilling to pay the fine, then they ought to face suspension. And the fines MUST be more than a piddly $1k or something. Something more like $10k per week or something - paid from the players own salary BEFORE they take the field for their next game. And only once per season can a player pay a fine to escape a suspension (probably only suspensions which are 'low level offenses too).

The problem comes when a 55k player (or even a $25k rookie from the NYC squad) commits an offense - for them they might like to pay the fine, but are unable to. So the option to serve it out by missing matches needs to be offered.

I'd just be happy to allow the week prior to origin to be counted towards suspensions.

So if a player like Lewis gets a 1 week suspension, he can simply count the game he would have otherwise been playing for penrith towards the supension then play. Essentially the TBA rule without the need to name someone TBA.

Mixture of both, poor old Steve Matai will go broke.

Would be a touch cruel to fine a rookie on $60k the same as a bloke on $300k. They would have to scale it.

Would make it so rep and finals matches are weighted heavier when it comes to counting weeks.
