I don’t know if this idea is a good or bad , you can’t have both parties coming out winners in a swap situation - or can you ? Shall be interesting to see what decision the big wigs of the NRL come out with .

If we were able to swap McGregor for a manikin, we would be streets in front!

The manikin could be armless & legless, to counter for McGregor being clueless.
Just saying ......

Hopefully the maestro will be used only for his good looks (?) at this season's post press match interviews , as all of the real talking will be done on the field - courtesy of Flanagan and Sheppard .

I agree with you. Of course Player manages clubs recruitment offices will think it's a great idea and it will be approved. I know we are past loyalty but not so sure the fans and members would be thrilled to see their club sign a player for just 12 months on a short term arrangement with his heart likely not in it for his temporary club. Next will be short term monthly swap deals to cover for injury. Great for the ones that matter the least the fans and supporters

That is a very good point BLMO1 - “ with his heart not likely in it “ . For how long now have the fans complained and have been upset when a top player decides to break his contract to play elsewhere ?

In this instance we actually have the club making the decision to move a player on - but only for a short duration or ? What occurs should the young man suffer a serious injury whilst playing for his ‘ part time ‘ club , who foots the bills ? Perhaps the player becomes accustomed to his new team and it’s traditions and decides that he doesn’t wish to return?

Such swap - deals will open a hole can of worms and I sincerely hope that the NRL when reaching its final decision truly takes into account all aspects of such a proposal.

Not sure about swaps but in British and European football, players, usually younger, promising ones who are temporarily struggling to crack the first team are often loaned out to other clubs who will give them first team football experience and hopefully, make them better and more competitive players for the next season. A win win situation for the two clubs assuming the player is happy with the club he is being loaned to. Some of those loans do come with recall options (eg should the original club experience injuries in the loanee's position, the loaned player can be recalled).

I don't mind the idea for up and comers if all parties amicable but it is slready aimed at established 1st graders (Momorovski). And can see clubs using it for salary cap probs for a year etc. it is different to wanting to move an unwanted player on who you hope likes his new club and stays and pick up a player as a trial swap as clubs won't want the players back.
In any event my beef is a poor look for the kids members and fans and these promoting their short term loan club to the same people.

Cant see this working tbh.
The notion has merits, however, there are too many question marks to make it an effective option. These would include,
salary cap adjustments,
a DS player being swapped for a top 30 player where the DS player plays in the top 30 only to return to the DS at his current club.
How long is the swap for and can it be broken? eg: a team requested the early return of a swapped player, but not releasing the other one back.
There is also the 'coaching' side of it. Imagine you are currently training with the Roosters under Robinson and asked to swsp to train under Mc85......mmm no thanks!!

This situation works well in Soccer due to the overall numbef of teams spread throughout the UK and Europe. The NRL is very restricted wirh only 16 teams.

I cant see how it would eventuate with the prospect of further teams joining the NRL with squads that need to be filled.
